2023 Darts European Championship Betting Picks

The 2023 PDC Machineseeker European Championship takes place in Dortmund, Germany, this weekend. The 32 top performers on the European Tour this year are taking part in the end-of-season competition, which promises to be another cracking event from the PDC. Four-time winner Michael van Gerwen (+350) is the favorite. But MVG hasn’t won the event since 2017. In our darts betting picks, we look ahead to the action and tell you if the Dutch darting machine is likely to add a fifth title this weekend.

  • What; 2023 PDC Machineseeker European Championship
  • Who; Top 32 Players on European Tour Order of Merit
  • When; Thursday, October 26th - Sunday, October 29th
  • Where; Westfalenhalle, Dortmund, Germany

The European Championship is the season-ending finale of the regular European Tour which has taken place over the year. The top 32 players from the 13 events held make up the field, meaning all the world’s top darts players will be on show at the showpiece event taking place in Dortmund over the next four days.

In total, six PDC World Champions are competing this week. They are Michael Smith, MVG, Gerwyn Price, Peter Wright, Rob Cross, and Raymond van Barneveld. And they will all be competing for a share of the £500,000 prize pool.

The top seed is Dave Chisnall (+2000), who won three of the 13 European Tour events and topped the rankings. He takes on Master Champion Chris Dobey in the opening round. But top seed or not, Chisnall is nowhere near the top of the betting such is the quality of players on show this weekend.

Betting to win the 2023 PDC European Championship

Michael van Gerwen is the +350 betting favorite to win the PDC European Championship. The Green Machine heads a stellar list of players, with Gerwyn Price next in the betting at +400 and Luke Humphries at +450. 2023 World Champion Michael Smith is +800, with Rob Cross (the 2018 World Champion) next at +1600.

The best online darts betting sites don’t see Dave Chisnall as a major threat. The three-time winner on the European Tour is only +2000 to win this competition for the first time and add it to his list of titles won in 2023.

Players to watch

The quality of players in the PDC has now got to a level probably never seen before. Phil Taylor dominated for years in the past, and then MVG had a spell at the top of the game. But now, it’s just ridiculous. Current World Champion Michael Smith hasn’t had a bad year, but he’s barely won a thing.

And now it’s getting even tighter at the top, with World Grand Prix winner Luke Humphries a real threat at every event.

If Michael van Gerwen (+350) turns up and performs at his best, he is the best player in the world. We’ve said it many times on the website. The problem is that MVG doesn’t do it very often anymore.

The most consistent performer at the top level is Gerwyn Price (+400). But as the IceMan found out at the Premier League Darts final last May, even he can’t live with MVG when he’s on song.

Luke Humphries (+450) is the in-form player on the PDC circuit. The 28-year-old Englishman won the recent World Grand Prix, and in doing so, he landed his first major PDC title. The win will give Humphries far more self-belief and confidence.

For 18 months, he has been a threat within the PDC. But he could never get over that final hurdle and win a major title. Now he has, he looks set to become a mainstay at the top of the game for the foreseeable future.

Our Picks to Win

This is a difficult call to make, as you can tell from all of the above. The most recent major final saw Luke Humphries defeating Gerwyn Price at the World Grand Prix. But that was in sets format, and this event is in the best-of-legs format.

With this being an end-of-tour competition, the matches are longer, and this will favor the better players. Therefore, we do expect the big names to make it to the latter stages.

Gerwyn Price always seems to be there or thereabouts in these events, and he is worth backing.
Another name that has reached a lot of finals this year is that of Luke Humphries. And after his recent win at the World Grand Prix, he is full of confidence. This was the most recent major competition, and it was Price that Humphries beat in the final, showing both men were in good form.

Gerwyn Price is +400, and Luke Humphries is +450. They can both be backed to win this event and as long as one or the other wins, a profit will be made.
