Luke Littler (+300)
In our Premier League Darts preview, we tipped Littler to make a nine-dart finish at some point in the tournament. He made us wait but hit a spectacular nine-darter in the final against Luke Humphries which he went on to win easily.
The 17 year old is quite simply the best player on the planet and has rightly been installed as the betting favorite. +300 are very reasonable odds and these are likely to shorten closer to the time if Littler continues this upward trajectory.
Luke Humphries (+350)
The reigning champion will be determined to defend his crown and is priced at +350 to do so. At last year’s final, Humphries said he needed to win that one before Littler goes on to dominate. He was probably right. Humphries is a class act but these odds are not a tempting proposition when a player of Littler’s quality is involved.
Michael Van Gerwen (+500)
This is a better value bet than Humphries. MVG can beat anyone comfortably on his day but his erratic form makes this a risky betting option. Van Gerwen showed glimpses of his quality during the Premier League where he came 3rd in the overall standings. But the world number two has looked way off his best recently, losing to the relatively unknown Franz Roetzsch in the recent Players Championship.
Michael Smith (+1400)
The 2023 winner is priced at +1400 to win his second world darts championship. In 2023, Smith was part of one of the best finals in recent memory. Smith achieved a nine-dart finish just moments after Michael van Gerwen narrowly missed his own nine-darter by failing to hit Double 12. The match was a thrilling back-and-forth battle, with Smith eventually breaking van Gerwen's throw and maintaining his own to take a 6–3 lead. Despite losing the tenth set and falling behind in the eleventh, Smith rallied to win two consecutive legs, setting himself up to throw for the match. He clinched the victory with an eleven-dart finish, winning 7–4 to become the world champion for the first time and ascending to the top spot in the PDC Order of Merit.
Rob Cross (+2200)
I include Rob Cross as a pick because his price of +2200 is too high. This is a good value bet for a previous world champion who is one of the best players in the world and consistently competes at the highest level.
Nathan Aspinall (+4000)
Much like Cross, the +4000 odds offer very good value. Aspinall finished 5th in the Premier League and is the world number five as well as a multi-tournament winner. It is a surprise to see him at such high odds and to see some of the names above him in the favorites list. If you are looking for a more speculative bet with higher reward then this is a good pick.
World Darts Championship
The PDC World Darts Championship, organized by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), is an annual premier event in the sport of darts. Taking place from December to January, this championship is hosted at Alexandra Palace in London, a tradition since 2008. It is the most prestigious tournament in the PDC circuit, with the champion awarded the Sid Waddell Trophy, named in memory of the renowned darts commentator Sid Waddell, who passed away in 2012. The PDC World Darts Championship, along with the Premier League Darts and World Matchplay, forms the esteemed Triple Crown of darts.
