Last weekend in Nottingham, Gerwyn Price managed to win the night, ending Michael van Gerwenâs run of three consecutive wins. Can MVG strike back immediately? Elsewhere, Chris Dobey moved up to sixth in the table and back into contention for a top four finish after getting to his second final of the season. In what was an amazing night for Dobey, who looked down and out in recent weeks, he took his place in the final courtesy of a 6-0 semi-final win over Michael van Gerwen.
This all just goes to show that the constant grind of the Premier League affects even the best players. And although it can make calling picks more difficult, it doesnât half make for exciting darts action.
Betting to win Premier League Darts Night Eight
Chris Dobeyâs sensational win over MVG in Nottingham means he is priced up at +1100 to win on Thursday. âHollywoodâ, as he is nicknamed, is still last in the betting to win on the night. But this was also the case last week, except back then he was +1800.
The betting favorite is again MVG, as it is every week. This week van Gerwen is just +200 to win the night. The changes behind van Gerwen are telling though. Current World Champion Michael Smith is no longer the second favorite, this week that accolade goes to Gerwyn Price.
The two men have flipped in the betting, with Price at +400, and Smith at +450. The best darts betting sites, and punters, seem to have finally lost faith with Peter Wright as well. So far this season, Wright has always been fourth favorite on his own, just behind MVG, Smith and Price.
This week Wright finds himself not just behind the three favorites, but also behind Dimitri Van den Bergh, and on the same odds as Clayton and Aspinall, just ahead of Chris Dobey. Night Eight draw
The below draw shows why MVG is shorter to win on the night (this week) than he usually is. If the Dutchman can overcome Peter Wright in his quarter-final he is scheduled to play either Nathan Aspinall or Dimitri Van den Bergh in the semi-final.
On the other side of the draw, should Gerwyn Price and Michael Smith make it through their respective first matches, they would then face each other in the semi-final. That also makes it more than likely that one of those two will be in the final though.

MVG has looked a bit washed up lately. As we alluded to earlier, the Premier League Darts roadshow is relentless and draining, and MVG looks to be feeling this at the moment. So even though he has a clear route to the final, he probably isnât worth backing at +200.
This week, weâre going with Gerwyn Price to win again. At +400, he is good value as he is the man in form. Michael Smith is a danger, but if weâre choosing between the two, it has to be Price on current form.
Now, onto the individual quarter-final matches.
Peter Wright +241 vs Michael van Gerwen -290
Peter Wright has no form at all to speak of. He needs a bit of luck, but how can he be picked to beat MVG? On current form, van Gerwen is a risky bet at -290. So instead, take MVG (-2.5) to win on the handicap at +103.
Dimitri Van den Bergh -122 vs Nathan Aspinall +102
A real 50/50 match up. Last week these two met and the scoreline was 6-4 to Van den Bergh. It was a poor match with both players averaging in the low 90s. Aspinall had the slightly better average (92.90), so let's take him to get revenge this week.
Jonny Clayton +146 vs Gerwyn Price -166
All these fixtures are a repeat of last weekâs quarter-finals. Last week, Price won this match 6-4. And although it was a close game, Price is our pick to win on the night this week, so we have to go with the Ice Man to win.
Chris Dobey +159 vs Michael Smith -179
Chris Dobey didnât just defeat MVG last Thursday, he also defeated Michael Smith 6-4 in the quarter-final. Can Dobey use that win as a springboard to better things? Possibly. But he was slightly lucky to beat Smith with an average of 93.42.
Smith shouldnât have to up his game by much to gain revenge, and we think he will beat Dobey in Newcastle. Michael Smith is -120 on the handicap, and we think that is a better value pick.
