The 2023 Premier League Darts Format
The format of Premier League Darts has changed in recent years. Starting in 2022, Premier League Darts switched from being a round-robin league format to a weekly straight knockout on-the-night competition. And this season, the format is the same.
Every week the eight players involved now play a quarter-final, with the four winners progressing to the semi-final and then the final. League table points are awarded on the basis of how far you get on the night.
The four losers in the quarter-finals receive zero points. The two losing semi-finalists get two points, with the beaten finalist receiving three points. The winner on the night gets five points.
Night 2 fixtures and betting
Night 1 from Belfast last Thursday saw Chris Dobey defeat Michael van Gerwen 6-5 in the final, taking out a magnificent 160 to seal the victory with the Dutchman himself waiting on 127. The second week's action comes from Cardiff, where Dobey takes on home favorite Gerwyn Price in the quarter-final.
The full line up is as follows:-
- Michael Smith vs Jonny Clayton
- Nathan Aspinall vs Peter Wright
- Gerwyn Price vs Chris Dobey
- Michael van Gerwen vs Dimitri Van den Bergh
In the betting to win outright on the night, Michael van Gerwen is the favorite at +200. Following behind MVG is new world champion Michael Smith at +325, and then we see Gerwyn Price at +500, with Peter Wright not far behind at +550.
The winner from Night 1, Chris Dobey, is down at +1500 for a repeat performance from the opening week.
The above odds are taken from BetOnline. More details about them can be found in our BetOnline sportsbook review. Full betting on the night's winner from the best online sports betting sites can be found on our darts odds table below.

Outright winner pick
For our outright winner on the night pick, we're going for Michael van Gerwen. MVG showed he was in excellent form last week, defeating Michael Smith 6-3 in their quarter-final, and then seeing off Dimitri Van den Bergh 6-4 in their last four matchup.
The final against Chris Dobey was close, and the chances are if Dobey hadn't magnificently taken out that 160, MVG may well have won it.
MVG has already shown the sort of form that says he is the man to beat in this competition. And if presented with the situation he found himself in last Thursday again this week, we think van Gerwen will come good this time around.
Smith vs Clayton
Onto the regular matches, and first we start with the new world champion Michael Smith, taking on Welshman Jonny Clayton.
Smith is the favorite to win the match at -180, with Clayton the outsider at +160.
Both players lost their opening matches last week. Smith as we've already mentioned, to MVG. While Clayton was disappointing in his 6-2 defeat to Dimitri Van den Bergh.
Clayton is from Wales, so he should be able to rely on the support of the home crowd. But we don't see that being enough to see him winning, and we make Smith our pick to beat Clayton in the night's opening match.
Aspinall vs Wright
The two times world champion Peter Wright takes on Nathan Aspinall in the night's second quarter-final.
Wright's opening night got off to a poor start, losing 6-3 to Chris Dobey. As for Aspinall, he defeated Gerwyn Price 6-4 in his opening match, but lost 6-4 to Dobey in the semi-final.
Wright is favorite at -160 to win on the moneyline. With Aspinall at +140. It's a hard call, but Wright has been up and down lately, so Aspinall looks like the better value pick.
Price vs Dobey
Gerwyn Price fell at the first hurdle on Night 1, losing 6-4 to Nathan Asinall. While we all know that Chris Dobey upset the odds to win on the night.
After losing in the way he did in Belfast, it goes without saying the Price will be well up for this one. He will also want to show Chris Dobey who the boss is after his shock win last Thursday.
The best Darts betting sites are favoring the Welshman. Gerwyn Price is -180 on the moneyline. Chris Dobey is +160. We think Price is going to bounce back with a win and make him our pick.
Van Gerwen vs Van den Bergh
The final match of the quarter-final line up sees defending Premier League Darts champion Michael van Gerwen taking on Dimitri Van den Bergh.
MVG made it to the final in last Thursday’s event. Van den Bergh defeated Jonny Clayton in the quarter-final, and then lost to guess who in the semi-final? Yes, you’ve guessed it. MVG saw off Van den Bergh 6-4 in the last four.
We’ve already made MVG out pick to win on the night, so we’re obviously expecting him to win this match. MVG is -325 to win on the moneyline, Van den Bergh is +270.
Giving Van den Bergh a +2.5 leg start, van Gerwen is +105 on the handicap spread and looks a far better value pick than his odds are on the moneyline.
