India were knocked out of the 2022 T20 World Cup in humiliating fashion. But with the next competition just over 18 months away, they've already been made second favorites to win the 2024 T20 World Cup. So is India good value? Or are they a bet well worth avoiding? Here we take a look at whether India really can win the 2024 T20 World Cup and name our way too far out cricket betting picks.
Off the field, India is the financial powerhouse of world cricket. But this in turn leads to expectations, and as a result, their fans also expect them to be the dominant force on the pitch.
Apart from a world T20 win in 2007, and ODI World Cup wins in 1983 and 2011, the Indian cricket team has fallen well short of expectations. Three world titles isn't bad, it's the same amount as England. But for the last 11 years, India has won nothing while being the dominant cricketing force off the field.
India now expects to win world titles. So whatâs going wrong? And does this justify them continually being made one of the favorites for ICC events, despite not really coming close to winning any in recent years.
T20 World Cup Winner Betting
As we've already alluded to, India are the +300 second favorites to win the 2024 T20 World Cup. They sit second behind the defending champions England, who are +275.

There's not too much between the two teams in terms of odds with the best online cricket betting sites. And those odds could well flip flop over the next 18 months, and India may well go into the competition as favorites.
Behind India is Australia, who actually look quite long at +400. Afterall, itâs only 12 months ago that the Aussies were T20 World Champions, winning the pandemic delayed 2020 competition held in the UAE in 2021.
Pakistan are next in the betting at +600, with New Zealand following close behind at +700. The supposed 2022 dark horses, South Africa, are next at +800.
Full odds can be found below, where weâve compared odds from three of the best cricket betting online sites.

India has already sacked itâs selection panel
When England thrashed India by 10 wickets in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final, they didnât just beat India, they humiliated them. This was the sort of defeat that generally costs someone their job. In this case, it was the whole of the Indian selection panel, who all were relieved of their duties just a few days after the loss. Or as most would say, they were sacked.

So, will a change of personal of the people who choose the team, lead to a change in fortunes? Well, it doesnât guarantee it, but itâs a start. But if the new selection panel is just going to go in the same direction of the previous one, little is probably going to change.
Is a change in tactics required?
In the aftermath of the loss to England, it was claimed that India used tactics from a bygone era when they were batting. Rather than take the game to the opposition in the first 6 Overs of the match (the power play), India decided to play safe, preserve wickets, and attack in the dying overs.
That tactic is okay against the lesser nations. It also pays dividends if you bowl well, or the other team bats badly. But generally, it doesnât get you enough runs to defend against the better teams. And this is exactly what happened against England.

But was it bad tactics? Or did England just bowl that well, that India couldnât get going? Either way, the approach to batting in the power play needs looking at by India. The players are certainly there to attack. As well as captain, Rohit Sharma, there is wicket keeper Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav.
The latter pair are two of the most destructive white ball players in world cricket. But at the moment, India simply arenât utilizing them enough.
What about the captain and coach?
Itâs all very well changing the selection panel, but is India missing a trick here? The selection panel picks the players, and no one disputes the quality of the majority of the players. Itâs the aforementioned captain, Rohit Sharma, and the coaching staff led by Rahul Dravid that implement the tactics. So are they to blame?
No one expects the new selection panel to drop the likes of Pant and Suryakumar. That would be stupid. Yes, they might have a big call to make over players like Virat Kohli, but by and large the players are there.
Itâs up to the captain and coach to change direction in order to make this team successful. If they do make the relevant changes, then the cricket betting odds of +300 on India to win the 2024 T20 World Cup will soon disappear. If they donât change course, it will probably be another year of disappointment.
And as things stand, there is no guarantee that the current captain and coach will be in charge in 2024. So until we see which direction India is going in, it is probably best to not back them for now.
For me, the team who looks overpriced at the moment is Australia. They won this tournament in 2021, and I canât see their current price of +400 hanging around for long if they get on a roll.
