A week after Canelo Alvarez came out victorious against GGG, we have another huge clash on our hands come Friday, September 23rd as Shakur Stevenson faces Robson Conceicao at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. The WBO, WBC, and Ring Magazine junior lightweight titles are up for grabs as Stevenson currently holds all three. He's a massive favorite in the sportsbooks for this fight, sitting at -2500, while Conceicao, who hails from Brazil, is a +1100 underdog. Stevenson is the headliner and it's understandable why. The American is a perfect 18-0 in his career, registering nine knockouts. He turned professional in 2017 and won his first title in 2019 against Joet Gonzalez in the featherweight division before making the jump to junior lightweight, beating Jeremiah Nakathila in 2021. He then took down Jamal Herring later that year to secure the WBO title. In April, Stevenson collected the WBC and The Ring belts, defeating Oscar Valdez via unanimous decision. Stevenson absolutely dominated Valdez in that bout, basically toying with him. His quickness, power, and southpaw jab were too much to handle. There were numerous times when Stevenson knocked down Valdez but he couldn't manage to knock him out. Nevertheless, his opponent struggled to string together punches. Stevenson landed a total of 282 jabs to just 131 for Valdez. The 24-year-old also landed 79 more punches than the Mexican. Although Conceicao is a former title contender, he had lost to Valdez previously. That's going to leave Stevenson extremely confident for Friday's clash. The sportsbooks are clearly thinking the same as everybody else: Stevenson should win this fight.

Conceicao has nine years on Stevenson, currently fighting at 33 years old. He's never captured a title, challenging for the WBC super featherweight in September of last year, where as previously mentioned, he lost to Valdez. The Brazil native has a career record of 17-1, turning pro in 2016. His first bout was actually on the undercard of a Manny Pacquiao fight. Despite Conceicao's age, he's got impressive punching power and hand speed, which should help him stay in Friday's clash. His most recent bout came against Xavier Martinez, beating him in January via unanimous decision. Conceicao landed 22.8% of his punches versus Martinez. After a scary left-handed blow in the third round that almost knocked him out, Conceicao came back with authority and overwhelmed his opposition with a nice mix of body blows and jabs. Although he wants another shot at Valdez after the Mexico native handed Conceicao his first professional loss, Stevenson is the best of the best right now in this weight class. This will be an extremely difficult fight for Conceicao, especially with Stevenson fighting in front of family and friends in his hometown. But, Conceicao is resilient and could give the youngster a run for his money here.

Neither fighter registers a lot of knockouts and the moneyline offers minimal value with Stevenson, who I do believe will come out victorious. I just don't believe it's going to be easy for him. Conceicao still has a fire in his belly from that Valdez loss. He'll be giving it everything he's got here. Personally, I like the idea of this bout going the full 12 rounds and Stevenson winning via unanimous decision. That's how he's won his last two fights. With that being said, there is also value in taking the over 10.5 rounds at -240.
