Estrada vs Gonzalez Betting Preview
Estrada, a native of Sonora, Mexico, is one of the top super flyweights around. Both of these guys used to be flyweights but ultimately moved up a weight class and have been doing well for years now. Estrada is 43-3 in his career with a total of 28 knockouts. El Gallo is in good form at the moment too, winning seven straight bouts dating back to September of 2018. His last defeat was that year to Thai hotshot Wisaksil Wangek in Inglewood. However, Estrada didn't have it easy in his most recent fight in September against fellow Mexican Argi Cortes. It took the full 12 rounds for Estrada to come out victorious via unanimous decision. It was truly a back-and-forth affair, with each fighter getting in some solid blows. Cortes used his right hook to do damage, while Estrada just simply overpowered his countrymen at times. This was Estrada's first legitimate opponent for quite some time and his first fight in 18 months, so it's understandable why it took him some time to get going. The Cortes fight is the only one since Estrada's last meeting with Gonzalez, therefore he's still very familiar with what Chocolatito brings to the table.
Gonzalez, the pride and joy of Nicaragua, has been boxing at the professional level for a decade and a half. He's a seasoned veteran and a proven winner. He started at minimum weight, then to mini flyweight, moved up to flyweight, and then now, to super flyweight. Gonzalez has owned a belt in every single weight class. It actually took him 47 pro fights to finally lose, where he was beaten in back-to-back bouts in 2017 by Thai boxer Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, losing the WBC super flyweight title. He ultimately won back the WBA belt in February of 2020 and retained it in October of that year. The WBC belt is Gonzalez's for the taking again on Saturday, along with The Ring belt. He last fought in March in San Diego, defeating Julio Cesar Martinez in 12 rounds via unanimous decision. Gonzalez landed a total of 374 punches and 346 punches. Martinez, who isn't as skilled, landed just 182 punches overall on his Nicaraguan opponent. Gonzalez really came on strong in the last couple of rounds and dominated Martinez. The former super flyweight champion comes into Saturday's bout with a 51-3 record including 41 knockouts. Knowing the type of battles he and Estrada have had in the past, there's a good chance the trilogy fight goes the full 12 again.
Final Pick
The Juan Francisco Estrada vs Roman Gonzalez picks isn't an easy choice by any means. You're looking at two top-notch boxers who have been around the block. But, Chocolatito is a tad more experienced and certainly has revenge on his mind. I'm liking him taking back the WBC belt.
