Jaron Ennis will make the second defense of his IBF welterweight title when he faces Karen Chukhadzhian. The fight is at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, the same venue that Ennis defeated David Avanesyan at in the first defense of his title in July.

Ennis has put to bed any talk of moving up a weight to fight Terrance Crawford. He now wants to focus on unifying the welterweight division, and this defense is the next step to achieving his aim.

Karen Chukhadzhian is the mandatory challenger for the title. And although there are bigger fights out there for Ennis, he was forced to take this fight or risk relinquishing his title.

The fight will be a rematch of the January 2023 bout between the two men. Ennis won that encounter convincingly by unanimous decision to become the interim welterweight title holder.

Since that defeat, Chulhadzhian has won three in a row. The Ukrainian will be hoping - that a reluctant to take the fight - Ennis isn’t fully focussed when they meet, giving him the chance to extend his winning streak to four.

Usually in any boxing event, we say that the underdog has a puncher's chance. Well, for the first time in my boxing betting writing history, this might not be the case. Certainly it’s not in the eyes of the bookmakers, who aren’t giving Chukhadzhian any chance at all of winning.

We also don’t see the underdog winning. Chukhadzhian simply doesn't have the tools available to KO Ennis, or out box him over 12 rounds. And although we are not recommending a bet on Ennis at -3500, we still see him winning the fight comfortably.

The smart money seems to be saying Ennis will stop Chukhadzhian. We are not entirely convinced by that, especially given Chukhadzhian is one of only three opponents to take Ennis to the final bell.

We see two options to wager on here. The slightly riskier bet is to show faith in Chukhadzhian to last the 12 rounds and lose on points. That is +375.

The second option is to back which half of the fight Ennis stops Chukhadzhian in. These odds are understandably shorter, as it is basically a 50/50 wager.

We are of the view that Chukhadzhian can stick around for a while and make life uncomfortable for Ennis. Therefore our betting pick is for the fight to end in Rounds 7-12 at +100.
