Divisive Jake Paul looking for the biggest win in his professional career

Fight fans are split about Jake Paul’s involvement in boxing. Some say he isn’t a real boxer and it’s hard to argue with that view given the majority of his opponents to date.

He does have a fight record of 10-1, with a credible split decision defeat to Tommy Fury, the only setback on his fight resume. Furthermore, Paul has brought a whole new generation of fans to boxing, and his events have also raised the profile of the sport.

But besides the Tommy Fury fight, he hasn’t been in the ring with anybody that most purists would call a proper boxer.

His fight against Mike Tyson is the same. Okay, Iron Mike is a legend of the sport, one of the best ever. But it was over 30 years ago when Tyson was in his prime.

Jake Paul had his first professional fight in 2020. He has had access to the best trainers and facilities that money can buy since his debut four years ago. And it’s clear to see that he has been training hard and properly.

We do not doubt that Paul is well able to fight and hurt his opponents. Our only doubt is if he will want to hurt a legendary figure that most fight fans don’t think should be in the ring.

Can Iron Mike roll back the years?

Mike Tyson has a professional fight record of 50-6-2. He last fought professionally against Kevin McBride in June 2005. Tyson retired before the start of the 7th round, bringing down the curtain on his professional career in disappointing fashion.

Tyson has since fought Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition bout in November 2020. The eight-round event ended in a draw with neither man really looking to inflict any damage on the other.

Iron Mike had to pull out of the original July 20th fight date with Paul due to medical reasons, said to be an ulcer flare-up on a flight. This led to further questions about Tyson’s physical condition and if he was in a fit state to enter the ring against a man 31 years his junior.

In more recent days the story has been spun to claim that Tyson used the injury as a delaying tactic to get himself in better shape for the fight. But is this just additional hype to further promote the fight?

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Betting Picks and Predictions

How seriously is either fighter really going to be taking this fight?

Jake Paul is a master of self-promotion. He claims that knocking out 58-year-old Iron Mike would be the biggest moment in all of boxing history. But does he really believe that, and would he go for a brutal KO against an old man?

It’s also worth noting that if this fight goes the distance and looks close, there is an opportunity for Paul, through his own promotions company, to put on a rematch.

All this leads me to believe a bet on over 5.5 rounds looks the obvious call.

A bet on the draw is also worthwhile.

A disputed decision win for either fighter is a possibility. But it would more than likely go in favor of the younger fitter man. But rather than backing Paul to win on points at +330, a bet on the draw at +1000 makes more sense.

It’s far better odds, it opens the door to a rematch, or at the very least, both men get to leave with their reputations intact.
