Davis vs Garcia Preview
Davis ran into some legal trouble just 11 days ago on domestic violence charges, but thankfully he's figured that out in time to step in the ring on Saturday. The 28-year-old is easily one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world right now, owning a record of 27-0. He's knocked out 25 of his opponents while also holding the crown in three different weight classes. This will be his fourth title defense of the lightweight belt if the Baltimore native gets past Garcia. If he does, there is already a belief that Tank will fight Ryan Garcia in April, a bout that all boxings fans have long waited for. While Davis packs a punch, he cannot take Garcia lightly, a very experienced fighter known for pulling off upsets. Tank ended up putting Romero on the canvas in his last bout, but it was not easy. He landed just 28% of his punches. There is an advantage here for Gervonta regarding where this fight takes place, though. DC is in his backyard. Therefore, Davis should have a ton of home support. Plus, he last fought nearly a year ago. The tank is well-rested.
Garcia is no pushover. He's 16-0 with ten knockouts and while it's been over a year since he last put an opponent's lights out, the Dominican Republic native did pull off the ultimate upset last February, beating a young and up-and-coming fighter in Chris Colbert. He's already the WBA super featherweight champion and has moved up to lightweight for a bigger challenge. Garcia doesn't have the power of Davis, but he's a fundamentally sound fighter. He's also a very good defensive boxer, which could make it difficult for Tank to do what he usually does: Knock out the opposition. Although not many people are giving Garcia much of a chance here, he's used to being overlooked. That's a dangerous thing for Tank. Garcia has nothing to lose and will be looking to announce himself to the lightweight class in a big way. He's also got the advantage over Davis in both heights and reach.
Gervonta Davis vs Hector Luis Garcia Picks
Obviously, at -1250 odds, there is zero value in the moneyline because Davis is such a heavy favorite. That's why we'll turn to some specific bets. Garcia is a formidable opponent, but Tank is known for his ability to knock guys out. I have faith he can do so again here before taking on Ryan Garcia. Also, I like the over-in rounds. Garcia will give Gervonta a run for his money before tasting defeat.
