- What: Regis Prograis vs Devin Haney
- Where: Chase Center, San Francisco
- When: Saturday, December 9th
Devin Haney will look to become a two-division champion when he steps up to 140 lbs to fight super lightweight champ Regis Prograis next Saturday, December 9th. This 12-round, title bout will take place at the Chase Center, the home of the Golden State Warriors. Haney happens to be from the Bay Area, too. The youngster recently vacated all four of his lightweight belts ahead of this fight and evidently believes he's ready to take a step up. We'll see if that proves true. Haney's last clash was a win over Vasiliy Lomachenko in May, but that didn't come without controversy. We'll discuss that more below. As for Prograis, he retained his WBC belt in a victory over Danielito Zorrilla in June. Keep reading for the Regis Prograis vs Devin Haney picks.

Prograis vs Haney Odds
Although this is Haney's first fight at 140, he is the favorite with -375 moneyline odds. Prograis, who is nine years older, comes back at +275.
Will Prograis Continue Dominance?
Prograis is 34 years old and remains one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world. He's 29-1 in his professional career, registering a staggering 24 knockouts in the process. The New Orleans, Louisiana native has held the WBC super lightweight belt since 2022 where he knocked out Jose Zepeda. Since then, Prograis defending it against Zorrilla and will aim to do so again, this time against Haney.
"Rougarou" is an extremely gifted boxer with power, speed, and technical abilities. He also defends himself extremely well, making it very difficult for any opponent to land a blow. Between his KO capabilities and quickness, you can understand why Prograis is elite.
Initially turning pro in 2012, Prograis scratched off 23 wins in a row before Josh Taylor beat him in 2019 in England. Since then, Prograis has won five straight fights. It's unfamiliar territory for Prograis to be an underdog, but it won't bother him. He'll simply be focused on retaining his belt and handing Haney his first-ever defeat. To be honest, Prograis may be Haney's most difficult opponent yet and is certainly a different beast than most of the fighters at 135 pounds.
Haney Will be Confident
When you think of up-and-comers in boxing, two names instantly come to mind. Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson. Well, the latter has been criticized for his boring style of fighting but Haney is very much entertaining to watch. The San Francisco native is a perfect 30-0 in his career with 15 KO's and already conquered the lightweight division, hence why he's jumping up. Once Gervonta Davis refused to seriously negotiate a fight, Haney knew what his next move had to be.
He's already voiced a desire to move up to 147 pounds if he has success at 140. Lofty goals, but Haney is that talented. The American's win over Lomachenko was impressive and probably could've gone either way, to be honest. Both guys went at each other and exchanged tons of blows. Haney even called Loma his toughest opponent yet, but that may change next Saturday when he faces Prograis.
Unlike Prograis, Haney is more of a technical fighter rather than a guy who collects a bunch of knockouts. He's quick with great reflexes and a world-class jab. Just like Prograis though, he's very hard to hit. That means this bout could end up being a long one with minimal action. Haney has such a wide array of combinations as well and has been compared many times to Floyd Mayweather Jr, whom he is close with. Before beating Lomachenko, Haney took care of Aussie George Kambosos in back-to-back fights Down Under, both by unanimous decision.
Regis Prograis vs Devin Haney Picks
This is a tough one to predict. Although I do believe Haney will be the victorious one, it won't be easy. He will likely get beat up a bit but if the game plan is right, the American should snatch the WBC super lightweight title from Prograis. Take the moneyline.
