Fight Preview
This is a very special fight for Canelo, who is in his 18th year as a pro and gets to put on the gloves in his hometown of Guadalajara. The 32-year-old is a champion in four different weight classes and has truly proven to be one of the best boxers in the sport. Alvarez just recovered from surgery and wasn't sure he'd be able to fight this soon, but needless to say, he's ready to go.
There is no question Canelo will be motivated to put on quite the show in his first bout in Mexico since 2011, especially with so many friends and family in attendance. With a 58-2-2 record in his career, including 39 knockouts, Alvarez is a force to be reckoned with and has basically done it all. Saul is a hard-hitting puncher who likes to wear down his opponents early on and that'll be his strategy again. Before the win over Golovkin, Canelo lost to Dmitry Bivol in early 2022.
What a task ahead for Ryder. The southpaw is looking to march into Mexico and strip Alvarez of his super middleweight belt but it won't be easy. The 34-year-old owns a lifetime 32-5 record, including 18 knockouts. While the Brit does have some intriguing tools to give Canelo a run for his money, he's yet to face any top-tier opponents like this.
Although Ryder has the opportunity to finally win a world title, the environment is going to be very difficult. Everyone is supporting the hometown fighter and to be frank, he's just better. Ryder does come in with some momentum though, winning nine of his last 10 bouts. That includes a win over Daniel Jacobs in February of 2022, who was the interim WBO holder.
Canelo Alvarez vs John Ryder Picks
Could Ryder make life difficult for Alvarez? It's possible. However, I see no way this fight doesn't go Canelo's way. The moneyline offers minimal value though and Ryder has a notable size advantage here. That being said, I'm looking at Alvarez to win via decision.
