David Benavidez vs Caleb Plant Odds

David Benavidez-325-325
Caleb Plant+245+250

Benavidez is the clear favorite here with -325 moneyline odds at Bovada. He owns a perfect 26-0 record in his career. Plant comes back at +245 and his only defeat came against Canelo in 2021. A chance at revenge will be in the cards if the American can win this bout.

While these two have never battled it out in the ring, they've been jawing at each other for quite some time on social media. Things also got heated at their most recent press conference. The bad blood is evident and they'll get the chance to settle their differences in Sin City.

Benavidez vs Plant Preview

It's been quite a whirlwind over the last number of years for Benavidez, who has knocked out 23 of his 26 opponents to date. The Phoenix, Arizona native is a two-time WBC super middleweight champion, holding the belt from 2017-18 and 2019-20. "The Red Flag" had his title stripped in 18' after testing positive for cocaine and received a four-month suspension as a result. While Benavidez did win it back, he then missed weight in 2020 against Alexis Angelo. Nonetheless, he is an absolute weapon in the ring and cannot be underestimated. Benavidez put a beatdown on David Lemieux in his last fight back in May of last year, knocking him out in the third round. That means the 26-year-old is defending the interim WBC super middleweight belt here. Benavidez is the definition of a bruiser, packing a real punch and consistently showing the ability to put his opponents on the canvas. That's a very different style than Plant, which is why this is such an intriguing bout.

Plant is no pushover either and has also grabbed ahold of the super middleweight title at one point, except it was the IBF, not the WBC. The Tennessee native is more of a technical boxer than Benavidez and frankly, is the toughest opposition Benavidez has faced to date. Plant gave Canelo a serious run for his money in November of 2021 before an 11th-round knockout, losing his IBF belt in the process. But the 30-year-old bounced back in October of 2022, beating Anthony Dirrell via KO at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Plant has extremely quick hands and fantastic footwork. It'll be very interesting to see how he does against a power boxer like Benavidez. You better believe Alvarez is already on his mind too, with a rematch potentially waiting for him.

Benavidez vs Plant Picks

I think Plant's experience will come in handy here. Benavidez is surely aware of what Plant is capable of, but I really believe the prospect of facing Canelo again will motivate him to win this match. I'm liking the 30-year-old to come through as a heavy underdog. At +245, there is serious value for bettors.
