Gennady Golovkin vs. prediction

The biggest question heading into this fight concerns time. For Golovkin, that question is if the soon-to-be 40-year-old still has what it takes to compete with the top middleweight title challengers. As for Murata, the question facing him is if the long layoff, again, he has not competed since 2019, will be a negative for him against someone as talented and experienced as Golovkin.

In the most simple of terms, Golovkin is a few levels above his opponent when it comes to the competition he has faced and the experience he has garnered. However, that doesn't mean that Murata is not a live underdog in this fight. He deserves serious consideration when it comes to his ability to defeat Golovkin.

The basic breakdown of this fight is that both men are power punchers, but when it comes to experience against the best of the best, one man has that — Golovkin — and one man is lacking that type of ring time — Murata.

In addition to his advantage in-ring time against tough opponents, Golovkin has a higher fight IQ, a better jab, better overall boxing skills, a more powerful body punch, and a stronger chin. Murata will test all of those aspects when it comes to his veteran opponent, but he will not be able to break through and get the win. This fight will be an enormous learning experience for Murata, but it is a fight he will lose.

How long does Golovkin vs. Murata last?

Golovkin does not present an exceptionally good value when it comes to betting him as a straight win in this middleweight matchup. Where one can find some value is in the distance, the fight goes.

I think Golovkin has the skills, fight IQ, and power to hand Murata the first knockout loss of his boxing career. Golovkin's ability to attack the body with precision and power will get him the win in this one, and that victory will come in the second half of the fight.

The pick is Golovkin to win via knockout after Round 6.

Murata has the chance to play spoiler

There has been talking ahead of this matchup that a Golovkin win in this bout and an Alvarez win against Bivol could set up a trilogy bout between the two legends. That fight would earn the fighters mind-numbing payouts and would be one of the more anticipated bouts in boxing history. If Golovkin sleeps on Murata — which I do not think he will do — the younger fighter could ruin a lot of plans and in the meantime, earn himself an enormous paycheck in his next fight.

If you think Murata is set to play spoiler in this fight, and again, I do not believe that, the odds are favorable for him.
