Anthony Joshua set to stop Daniel Dubois and take his IBF Heavyweight title

The iconic Wembley Stadium is the venue for one of the biggest clashes in recent years between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois. The British duo will fight for the IBF Heavyweight title on September 21st. In our latest boxing betting picks, we tell you which man will leave Wembley with the belt.

  • Who: Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois
  • What: IBF Heavyweight Championship
  • Where: Wembley Stadium, London, England
  • When: Saturday, September 21st, 2024
  • Ring Walks: 5 pm ET (onwards)

Anthony Joshua is a two-time unified world heavyweight champion. He was dethroned in 2022 when he lost his three belts to Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk.

Usyk has since gone on to become the undisputed champion of the world but has since vacated the IBF belt that Joshua and Dubois are to fight for.

Daniel Dubois won the vacant IBF interim heavyweight title by stopping Filip Hrgovic in June. He was swiftly upgraded to IBF champion after Usyk vacated the belt.

Now Dubios has to defend his title in the ring, and it won’t be easy against the latest reincarnation of Anthony Joshua.

Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois Betting Odds

Daniel Dubois is the champion, Anthony Joshua is the challenger. Yet, Joshua is the name that comes first on the fight card.

The reason for this is that Anthony Joshua is the big draw. Despite being the world champion, Daniel Dubois is the lesser-known fighter around the world.

Fighting AJ is big business, and as a result, Joshua and his Matchroom management company hold the cards when it comes to negotiating. What they say goes. Basically, money talks.

AJ is not only the bigger name, but he is also the favorite to win the fight. On the money line, Anthony Joshua is -500. A win for Daniel Dubois is +350.

In the totals market, the fight is -115 to end in under 7.5 rounds and -115 to end in over 7.5.

Anthony Joshua Career Breakdown

Anthony Joshua has a fight record of 28-3.

Joshua has won 25 of his 28 fights by knockout. Two of his three defeats have come by decision. They were both against Oleksandr Usyk. His other defeat was a shock KO loss against Andy Ruiz Jr. in 2019.

In more recent times, AJ has won his last four fights since the back-to-back losses to Usyk in 2021 and 2022.

The wins haven’t been against the greatest of opponents. But the performances have steadily gotten better.

Joshua’s first fight after the second Usyk loss was an unspectacular points win over Jermaine Franklin.

That was followed by a 7th-round KO win over Robert Helenius, and then AJ forced Otto Wallin’s corner to retire him in his next fight.

The last time AJ was in the ring was in March against MMA fighter turned-boxer Francis Ngannou.

Unlike Tyson Fury, Joshua prepared for the former UFC fighter and made light work of proceedings, knocking Ngannou out in the second round to claim a comprehensive victory.

Daniel Dubois Career Breakdown

Daniel Dubois has a professional fight record of 20-2.

Dubois has won 20 of his 21 fights by KO, giving him a knock-out-to-win ratio of just over 95%.

His two defeats have come by knockout: One by Joe Joyce in 2020, and the other by Oleksandr Usyk in 2023.

Dubois has come in for criticism with many questioning his desire to fight on in both his defeats. The suggestion was he could have beaten both counts if he wanted to.

His mentality will be key when he takes on Joshua. How he reacts to taking a big shot could determine the outcome of the fight.

Since the loss to Usyk just over 12 months ago, Dubois has bounced back with two big wins. The first was against the much fancied Jarrell Miller in December 2023. The second was his interim title fight win over Filip Hrgovic in June.

Both fights were won by TKO. The victory over Miller came in the 10th, and the win over Hrgovic in the 8th Round.

Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois Betting Picks and Predictions

Both these fighters have frailties, there is no doubt about that.

Anthony Joshua looked a shadow of himself in a nervy display when he defeated Jermaine Franklin in his first fight back after the Usyk loss. But in his win over Ngannou, AJ looked more like his old self.

As for Daniel Dubois, we’ve already mentioned how he didn’t look like he wanted to carry on in both of his career defeats to date.

If he’s coming in for a bit of punishment from Joshua, will he fancy going toe-to-toe? Or will he try and see out the 12 rounds? Those are both questions that remain to be answered.

The one thing that we do know is that when Joshua is on top of his game, he gets things done early. This was never better illustrated than in his ruthless destruction of Ngannou.

If Joshua comes into the ring for the Dubois fight in that mindset, we can see him ending the fight early.

We say that Joshua wins, and wins early. If the -500 on an AJ victory is too short, then we recommend a bet on the fight ending in under 7.5 rounds at -115.
