Defending champion advances

Jonatan Christie opened his title defense with a 21-11 21-19 win over Jun Hao Leong of Malaysia on Tuesday. The Indonesian world No. 2 has played near the top of his game of late, reaching the semi-finals of the India Open in January before losing to Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the Indonesia Masters final.

The 27-year-old will face India's Lakshya Sen in the last 16 on Thursday. The All-England finalist from two years ago came from behind to win his first-round matchup against Chinese Taipei’s Su Li-yang.

Top seed still standing

Shi Yu Qi of China didn't have much trouble with Indonesia's Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo on day one, registering a 21-13 21-8 victory. The tournament's top seed won the All England Open badminton championships in Birmingham back in 2018.

His countryman Li Shi Feng, the world No. 6, also advanced to the last 16 with a comeback win to beat Canadian Brian Yang 21-11 18-21 21-16.

Odds for Last 16 matches

In the last 16, Jonatan Christie is favored by -6.5 games over Lakshya Sen with an over/under of 79.5 games.

Singaporean Loh Kean Yew is a massive -10.5 game favorite over Hong Kong's NG Ka Long Angus with an over/under of 75.5 games.

Li Shi Feng is favored by 4.5 games over Toma Junior Popov of France. With a tight, back-and-forth matchup expected, the over/under is set at 80.5 games.

In the final match of the Last 16, No. 1 seed Shi You Qi is favored by -11.5 games over Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan. The over/under is set at just 73.5 games.

All England Open Badminton Championship Picks

Take reigning champion Jonatan Christie to cover (-6.5) against Lakshya Sen with the UNDER 79.5 games.

While we think Shi You Qi will meet Christie in the final, we like Chou Tien Chen to cover (+11.5) in their last of 16 matchup with the OVER 73.5.
