The NBA Rookie of the Year award is an annual honor given to the top rookie of the regular season. The first Rookie of the Year award was given in 1952, and the trophy awarded is named after former Philadelphia Warriors head coach Eddie Gottlieb.

Each year, the NBA Rookie of the Year odds are released, including a list of the top candidates to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award based on their first NBA regular-season performance. The Rookie of the Year award has been in circulation since 1952 to the best performing first-year player in the duration of an NBA season.

The Rookie of the Year trophy is named after former Philadelphia Warriors head coach Eddie Gottlieb and is awarded once the panel of judges casts their votes on the top three players. Each position has a point value – first-place votes are five points, second place is three, third is worth one point. The judging panel is made up of sportswriters and broadcasters across the United States and Canada.

Twenty-one winners were drafted first overall in that year’s draft, and sixteen winners have won the Rookie of the Year award and MVP award in the same season. In three seasons, two players were selected to share the honor – Dave Cowens and Geoff Petrie in 1970-1971, Grant Hill and Jason Kidd in 1994-1995, and Elton Brand and Steve Francis in 1999-2000.

There are five instances where a player has won the award unanimously – Ralph Sampson, David Robinson, Blake Griffin, Damian Lillard, and Karl-Anthony Towns.

NBA Rookie of the Year odds are released almost immediately after the draft, with the top draft picks at the top of the board, changing throughout the season based on player performance. There are always one or two standout players each season that are highly favored to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award, and 2024/25 is no exception.

How to Bet on 2024/25 NBA Rookie of the Year Odds

Now that we’ve reviewed the quite small odds board, you might want to place a wager on the 2024/25 NBA Rookie of the Year Award winner. It’s a pretty simple and straight forward betting option, you just have to pick which player you believe will win the NBA Rookie of the Year award.

NBA Rookie of the Year Futures

This popular betting type is called a futures wager. Futures are available in almost every single professional and collegiate sport, where you are betting on an outcome or occurrence that is going to happen in the future. You will place a futures wager a year, months, or weeks in advance, and the odds will move throughout the season.

You can likely find great value in NBA futures wagers as the bets are much riskier and odds are much higher – even on the favored players. Don’t forget, Ja Morant wasn’t favored early in the season, so if you bet on him even with all the Williamson hype, you’ll see a decent payout.

If you chose Morant in October, and you locked in those odds – his odds are now -20000, so there isn’t really any value in betting on him present day, but if you chose him at +600, you could see a great payday if he wins.

The NBA is one of the top professional sports to gamble on, and sportsbooks capitalize on every opportunity they can to offer betting odds on the National Basketball Association.

Online sportsbooks have a much larger odds selection than what you would find in your local retail sportsbook - if sports betting is even legalized in your state yet. Offshore online sportsbooks can be the most convenient option for North American bettors, as it provides the opportunity to bet on the go, whether you’re at the game or sports bar - versus some states where in-person sports betting is the only option.
