MotoGP 2021 Riders Championship Pick

In the most recent Dutch Tourist Trophy race, Fabio Quartararo ran away with another first-place victory. He's now outright won four of the nine MotoGP competitions this year. It's probably no surprise that he's the odds-on favorite to win the Driver's Championship at year's end, per the online bookmakers:

Johann Zarco+500+500
Jack Miller+600+600
Joan Mir+1000+1000

The circuit will take a six-week hiatus until the next race — Styria Grand Prix, which happens on Sunday, August 8. Given the layoff and halfway mark in the year, it feels like the perfect time to revisit futures betting.

Maybe you bet on the championship futures before the season began and your pick is looking shaky at the moment. Or heck, maybe your original selection is in prime position to win, is it worth doubling down? Perhaps you've skipped wagering on MotoGP all year long. No matter which camp you fall into, this advice article is for you cause we're breaking down which riders are worth backing right now. Let's get to it!

Betting Marc Marquez — Yes or No?

We can almost guarantee a lopsided amount of money is on Marquez to win it all. Whether it's MotoGP or any other sport, casual bettors flock to two things — the "big name" and a narrative.

Marquez checks those two boxes more than anyone else in the sport. The Spaniard is the most accomplished rider of his generation, having won a world title on six different occasions.

Not only that, Marquez is amidst a redemption story, a tale that sports fans seem to latch onto. A devastating injury ended his 2020 campaign right as it began and he finally returned to the track this season.

Though he's shown flashes of returning to old form — most notably, winning the German Grand Prix a week ago — Marquez is nowhere near 100 percent. The coming layoff will help him recover, but he's still too far back in the rider standings to catch up. At 50 points, he's in 10th place and 106 points behind the front-runner.

Save your money if you're even considering riding with Marquez in futures betting. If you already bet on him, then you better have a backup plan on another rider. In case you don't, here's the best rider to back the rest of the way:

Best Bet To Make — Fabio Quartararo

Quartararo is slowly but surely running away with the MotoGP season. If you have money on him, great, consider "doubling down." If you don't, you'll want to wager with him before he extends his Rider's Championship lead further.

He's now 34 points ahead of Johann Zarco for MotoGP's top spot. But even then, the current second, third, and fourth-place riders have yet to win a single race this season. The only other driver that's won multiple races this season is Jack Miller with two wins, which is half of Zarco's total victories.

Only 22 years old, the future of MotoGP could very well be Quartararo. And if we're being honest, the future is now.

How To Watch MotoGP The Rest Of The Season

Like we said earlier, MotoGP is about to go on a "sabbatical" for the next month and a half. However, it will roar back into season in early August as 10 races remain on the racing calendar that doesn't finish until November.

If you have "skin in the game" you should be keeping tabs on MotoGP. The good thing is, if you're located in the United States, that's easy to do. NBC has exclusive TV rights to all the races. Coverage bounces back-and-forth between the regular NBC station and NBC Sports Network.

The only nuisance is race start times. Given the international nature of MotoGP, most competitions air live bright and early on Sunday mornings. But hey, there are worse ways to spend your weekend than watching the world's best motorcycle riders duke it out for the world title!

Alright, you're up to speed with MotoGP and how to approach the second half of the season. Unless you have a fat bet on Quartararo already, you may need to make a new wager. If so, we can point you in the right direction of where to do so. Check out the sportsbooks listed underneath.
