Eric Uribe

Born and raised in Nevada, Eric was exposed to the world of sports betting at an early age. He yearned to be 21 just to hit the sportsbook, and when that day finally came, he became a regular at the smoke-filled room, sweating out bets with sketchy characters. Eric's passion for sports betting hasn't wavered since. However, he's developed a separate interest in business too. Eric combines both these deep passions for OSB where he not only drops expert betting advice, but also researched news about the state of industry. Things like new legalization bills, tax changes, state revenue, innovation, and so much more!

Alaska Slowly Legalizing Betting

Alaska Makes Slow Progressive Toward Legalized Sports Betting

2022/05/04

Alaska governor Mike Dunleavy has been leading the charge to legalize sports betting since 2020. Dunleavy hasn't quite crossed the "goal line", but when the governor is on-board with a new practice, that increases the chances of it passing significantly. Still, challenges remain ahead for the forgotten state up north. Betting Bill Making The Rounds […]

Utah Likely To Never Allow Legal Sports Betting

2022/05/04

Never say never, but the chances of Utah legalizing sports betting are astronomically low — perhaps the lowest of any state inside the country that hasn't already done so (a list that's under 20 at this point).  But hey, you never know, the state could have a change of heart one day. Here's everything we […]
Legalizing Sports Betting Idaho

Legal Betting In Idaho Remains A Longshot

2022/05/04

Most states across the country have moved toward legalizing sports betting — with more than 30 states already on board. Idaho is not like most states, however. The "Potato State", as it's affectionately dubbed, appears to have zero appetites for legal sports betting and there are no signs that are changing anytime soon. Zero Movement […]

Kentucky Sports Betting On Hold Until At Least 2023

2022/05/03

The Kentucky Derby is still one of the hallmark sporting events — not just in the Bluegrass State but across the United States. Horse racing might not have the mainstream allure it once did (when it was arguably the second- or third-most popular sport in the country), but the prestige of the "Most Exciting Two Minutes In Sports" remains.

The 2022 event will happen on Saturday, May 7. It will draw a huge volume of sports bets — but legally speaking, none from the state it's actually happening in. That's because sports betting remains banned inside Kentucky. That has cascading effects across the state, as we'll explain.

Beto O'Rourke Calls for Legal Sports Betting in Texas

2022/04/29

Sports fans in Texas have been waiting on pins and needles for years to see if the state will ever legalize sports betting. That wait lives on, and it will continue until at least November 2022, when the next major elections are held and the matter is expected to be voted on. But Beto O'Rourke, a former presidential candidate now running for governor in Texas, has just recently thrown an interesting wrinkle into the equation.

Legal Sports Betting in Alabama Remains a Longshot

2022/04/29

Alabama has long been notorious for its opposition to any form of gambling and is the only state east of the Mississippi River to now offer any sort of lottery. That commitment to puritanism remained intact earlier this spring as the 2022 Alabama state legislative session drew to a close without a vote on two proposed bills that would clear the way for an increase in legal gambling.

South Carolina Lawmakers Move to Legalize Sports Betting

2022/04/29

A renewed effort to legalize sports betting is underway in South Carolina. A bipartisan bill sponsored by Rep. William Herbkersman (R) and Rep. Todd Rutherford (D) was introduced in South Carolina in late April, reviving efforts to add the Palmetto State to the growing list of states embracing online legal sports betting in the USA.

The trend toward legalized sports betting was sparked in 2018 when the United States Supreme Court struck down a federal law banning sports betting in most jurisdictions across the country. In the wake of that groundbreaking decision, over 30 states have taken steps to open their doors to both retail and online sports betting, including South Carolina’s two neighbors, North Carolina and Georgia.
