Dan Favale

Dan Favale

Dan first began writing about sports back in 2011. At the time, his expertise lied in the NBA and NFL. More than one decade, that remains the case. But he's also expanded his catalog to include extensive knowledge and analysis on the NHL, MLB, tennis, NASCAR, college basketball, certain esports and, most notably, the sports betting news industry at large. Basketball is Dan's first love—and remains so today. It is still, to this day, the sport he spends the most time writing and talking about. If you're a fan of his work, you've probably seen his work at major publications, heard him speak on his own podcast (Hardwood Knocks) and a multitude of other shows or seen one of his snarky posts on X (formerly Twitter) stumble across your timeline. Capably covering so many sports does sponge up a ton of Dan's brainpower. In his spare time, though, he has taken up amateur bodybuilding—which, if we're being honest, is probably just a fancy way of saying he's a wannabe fitness junkie. Regardless of what he's doing, Dan is bound to have either a podcast or, most importantly, some emo rock playing in the background. He grew up on blink 182, a band he still religiously worships to this day. And in recent years, he's become an avid fan of Youth Fountain and Hot Mulligan—two of the best when it comes to writing and playing sad music that sounds happy.

Education

Dan graduated from St. Joseph's College in New York after initially spending one year in the John Curley Center for Sports Journalist at Pennsylvania University. While that program was nationally renowned, Dan was at the time concerned about how geared towards traditional media it was. Switching specialties from journalism to a general English degree and attending St. Joseph's College ending up serving him well, as it gave him the freedom to develop an online voice and presence that's help keep his career afloat for nearly 15 years.

Professional Achievements

Dan has appeared on numerous sports talk radio shows, livestreams, TV spots and podcasts over the course of his career. He is also the founder of the Hardwood Knocks podcast, which covers the entire NBA and has been around in the mainstream since 2015.

The Fate of South Carolina Sports Betting May Hinge on College Football

2023/01/20

If 2023 is the year sports betting gets legalized in South Carolina, it will probably be because the state finally found a common ground on how they will treat gambling on college football. Phrased another way: The fate of South Carolina sports betting in 2023 and beyond may hinge on college football altogether. To be sure, there are […]

Confusion continues to permeate the future of sports betting in Oklahoma. One minute, it seems like the state is making progress towards full-fledged legalization. The next minute, they're not even discussing the subject, and we're all questioning whether the key power players involved even want to entertain an expansion of gaming laws. Sometimes, it would […]

Is the NBA Most Improved Player Award Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's to Lose?

2023/01/19

With more than halfway of the 2022-23 regular season in the books, the betting for NBA futures is starting to heat up. And while many will focus on the odds to win the 2023 NBA Finals, the year-end awards races are similarly interesting. Some individual honors already seem wrapped up—like Rookie of the Year, for example. But the […]

Russell Westbrook is Fool's Gold in NBA Sixth Man of the Year Race

2023/01/19

Whenever you bet on NBA futures, it's important to remember that odds aren't always reflective of reality. As incredibly talented and accurate as linemakers tend to be, they are also at the behest of the market. And if one player or team is receiving a lion's share of the action, they have no choice but […]

NFL Playoff Picks: Are the Buffalo Bills Locks to Beat the Cincinnati Bengals?

2023/01/18

Given that the Buffalo Bills have won their past eight games, you'd think they would be monster favorites to beat the Cincinnati Bengals in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs. But that's not actually the case. Indeed, Josh Allen and the Bills are comfortably favored entering this matchup. But as you can see from the latest NFL online […]

NFL Playoff Picks: Can New York Giants Continue Cinderella Run vs Philadelphia Eagles?

2023/01/18

Nobody had the New York Giants making it to the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs. Sure, we at OSB picked them to pull off the upset over the Minnesota Vikings last week in the Wild Card. (Here's hoping you capitalized on that!) But at the start of the regular season, the Giants had ultra-ultra-ultra long shot odds […]

NFL Playoffs 2023 Picks: San Francisco 49ers will Expose the Dallas Cowboys as Super Bowl Frauds

2023/01/18

Perhaps no NFL playoff game entering Divisional Round Weekend is harder to understand than the matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys.  On one side, you have a Niners team with a dominant defense and an offense that continues to defy logic with a rookie third-string quarterback under center in Brock Purdy. On the other side, you have a Cowboys […]

Can Jimmy Butler Lead Miami Heat to Martin Luther King Jr. Day Over Atlanta Hawks?

2023/01/16

When the Miami Heat and Atlanta Hawks meet on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, it will be under very different circumstances than most expected. Entering the 2022-23 NBA season, the assumption was both squads would be title contenders. In fact, each of them began the year with top-shelf odds to win the 2023 NBA Finals. Roughly halfway through the […]

The Jaylen Brown Injury Won't Stop the Boston Celtics From Pummeling Charlotte Hornets

2023/01/16

Many are wondering whether the Boston Celtics can successfully navigate an extended period of time without All-Star Jaylen Brown. That question will persist so long as he's recovering from a right adductor injury that has already cost him a few games. Immediately, though, the bigger-picture betting lines have reacted accordingly. Boston has seen their odds to win […]
