Silva comes to UFC 314 with a lifetime record of 15-2-0. Since joining The Company, he has yet to pick up a loss, winning all five of his official matches. His most recent victory came over Melsik Baghdasaryan in a February fight night. Silva TKO’d him near the end of the first round.
To that end, the 28-year-old has won each of his four matches by knockout or TKO. This will, however, be just his second fight at a UFC main event. And even his previous experience, at UFC 303 last year, saw him face off in more of an undercard situation. People will be watching to see how he responds in a top-three fight.
Mitchell currently has a 17-3-0 career record entering UFC 314. His last match came against Kron Gracie at UFC 310 this past December. He ended up picking up a knockout early in Round 3. using his elbows
With this said, Mitchell has effectively alternated wins and losses of late. After rattling off six consecutive wins between July 2018 and December 2022, he fell to Ilia Topuria at UFC 282. From there, he beat Dan Ige at a September 2023 Fight Night before losing to Josh Emmeett at UFC 296.

Indeed, Charles Jourdain is the most skilled one Silva has faced to date. Though the latter picked up a victory over him at UFC 303, he did appear over matched when ground-bound. Jourdain lost by knockout but completed three takedowns through less than two full rounds.
Still, it may turn out this is but a blip on Silva’s otherwise sterling resume. And even though Mitchell is the more dangerous grappler, there is no writing off Silva’s power.
The 28-year-old is landing 5.26 significant strikes per minute at a 53 percent clip. That type of volume and above-average efficiency is extremely rare.
What’s more, Silva’s grappling defense is typically better than we saw against Jourdain. Opponents are landing just 20 percent of their takedown attempts against him to boot. While 4.5-to-1 odds may have been a little heavy, Jean Silva UFC 314 betting lines appear to have settled right where they should be.
The Case for Bryce Mitchell to Beat Jean Silva
With all due respect to Mitchell, he is not going to win the striking battle against Silva. The former is more accurate, landing his strikes at a 59 percent clip. But he attempts barely three strikes per minute.
If Mitchell is going to win, he’ll have to keep the match ground-bound. That is something he’s absolutely capable of doing. His 3.39 takedowns per 15 minutes are patently absurd, and we have seen him dictate terms of engagement before.
When Mitchell beat Dan Ige, for instance, he completed five takedowns through three rounds. And when he upended Edson Barboza at UFC 272, he connected on four takedowns through three rounds.
Silva has shown questionable enough issues in other grappling situations to give Mitchell hope. If the latter can skirt enough of Silva’s power-packed punches, he has a real chance of pulling off the upset.
UFC 314 Picks for Silva vs Mitchell
Zoom out, and it is easy to see why some think Silva is being overvalued as the favorite in this match. His lack of experience against opponents who can grapple and complete takedowns like Mitchell is a real void on his resume.
This is nevertheless different from thinking Silva is at real risk of losing for the first time in years. It would be one thing if he delivered power at the cost of efficiency. He doesn’t. Silva knows how to pace himself and ensure his bigger swings don’t open him up to upper-cut counters.
Sure, Silva may have to take this match to a decision for a change. Mitchell’s striking defense is that good. But in our opinion, he does not have what it takes to push Silva towards submission.
