- Where: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York
- When: Saturday, March 1st, 2025
- Ring Walks: TBC
We’ve just witnessed the rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol in Saudi. Now it’s the USA’s turn to put on a show, and the main event is Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach.
The venue is the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, an area synonymous with boxing. It was once home to Mike Tyson, also known as 'the Baddest Man on the Planet.'
Gervonta Davis is a man who at times has seemed happy to take on that mantle from Tyson. Out of the ring he has had his fair share of trouble, inside the square circle, he has been nothing short of sensational.
Credible opponents are hard to find, or agree a fight with, in the lightweight division. Lamont Roach Jr. is the next cab off the rank. But a look at the betting suggests the bookmakers aren’t giving him much of a chance of beating Davis.

Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach: Fight Breakdown
Gervonta Davis has a fight record of 30 wins and no defeats. The 30-year-old southpaw from Baltimore has won 28 of his fights inside the distance.
The only two fighters to take Tank to the scorecards were German Meraz in a 6-round contest in 2014 and Issac Cruz in a world title defense in December 2021. Both fights were won by Davis by unanimous decision.
Since going the distance with Cruz, Davis has had four fights. He defeated Rolando Romero with a 6th-round TKO in June 2022, and since that bout, all his fights have been won in the second half of the contest.
Tank’s next win was a 9th-round TKO of Hector Garcia. He then defeated Ryan Garcia with a 7th-round KO, and in his most recent fight against Frank Martin, Davis won with an 8th-round KO.
Lamont Roach has fought 27 times with 25 wins, one loss, and one draw. The 29-year-old from Washington D.C. fights out of the orthodox stance.
Roach has won 15 of his fights by decision, with 10 coming by knockout. He suffered a unanimous decision loss to Jamel Herring in 2019, with the draw coming against Orlando Cruz in April 2018.
Roach has fought six times since his defeat to Herring, winning three inside the distance and three times on the scorecards.
His most recent fight was against Feargal McCrory in Washington D.C. in June. Roach won the contest by an 8th-round TKO with the Irishman pulled out by his corner after they decided he had taken enough punishment.
Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach Betting Picks and Predictions
The bookmakers aren’t giving Lamont Roach any chance of beating Tank.
We agree that Tank will win. But the odds for a Davis win after just one fight in the last 22 months look way too short.
If, as we expect, Davis wins, it will no doubt be by KO. The odds on this outcome in the method of victory market is -425, which is still short, but far better than just backing Davis to win at -1500.
So to find some betting value we will have to stray into the props markets.
Recent history tells us that Tank wins most of his fights in the second half of the contest. And with this being only his second fight in just under two years, a slow start by the lightweight champion is very likely.
Expect to see Davis keep things tight in the first half of the fight, weighing up his opponent. Then when Tank finds his range, a stoppage in the second half of the fight becomes inevitable.
A win between rounds 7 and 12 at -120 is our betting pick.
