The 2024 Moto3 racing season is rapidly coming to an end. Most of the schedule has been defined by champion David Alonso. Will it end that way as well?
- What: Barcelona Motorcycle Grand Prix
- When: Sunday, November 17, 2024
- Start Time: 5 p.m. EST
- Where: Barcelona, Spain
- Venue: Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya
For anyone regularly following this season, you already know this race was in doubt. The last race of the year was initially supposed to be the Valencian Grand Prix. However, on the heels of devastating flooding that has resulted in hundreds of deaths, the series bosses opted to move the venue. Many wondered whether there would be a race at all.
It turns out there will be. Qatar was considered as a potential alternative, but the league heads have settled on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. With the venue now set, the overarching question remains: Will David Alonso win yet again?

Breaking Down the Difference Between Moto3 and MotoGP
Some may confuse this race with betting on MotoGP. It’s not. Moto3 is a separate league with its own events and, most notably, vastly different racing bikes.
For anyone who might be new to Moto 3 online betting, we have compiled a few of the key differences between this event and MotoGP:
- Power: This is the main difference between Moto 3 and MotoGP. The engines in MotoGP have a maximum capacity of 1000 CC and four cylinders. Moto3 bikes, on the other hand, have a 250 CC engine with one cylinder.
- Weight: Moto3 bikes are lighter. They have a minimum weight of 335 pounds (152 kilograms). MotoGP bikes, however, must be at least 446 pounds (202 kilograms).
- Race Class: MotoGP is the premier racing league in the world. Moto3 is exclusively for emerging talents who are hoping to one day make the jump up to MotoGP.
- Race Length: Because this is a league for up-and-comers, the races are inherently shorter. Distances usually total somewhere around 100 kilometers. This is the equivalent of 18 to 21 laps. MotoGP races are typically longer (minimum 110 kilometers) and can feature close to 30 laps.
If you are a MotoGP bettor looking to get in the David Alonso Moto 3 hype, keep all of these in mind as you make your picks for the Barcelona MotorCycle Grand Prix.
Will David Alonso Scoop Up Yet Another Victory?
People are so used to seeing David Alonso (+140) winning races this season that they are probably wondering why he’s paying out better than even money. Well, the answer is simple—and a testament to his dominance.
David Alonso clinched the Moto3 world championship with four races to go. That is bonkers. He has six first-place victories on the season. But with the title in tow, he does not have a major incentive to win at Barcelona.
Why Collin Veijer is the Second Favorite at the Barcelona Grand Prix
With David Holgado, the runner-up for the World Championship, not expected to race, Collin Veijer (+175) has received second-favorite billing. And look, the 19-year-old Dutchman deserves it.
In fact, Ceijer has already agreed to a Moto2 contract with Red Bull for the 2025 season. He has earned that, too. His turnpin handling coupled with his ability to accelerate and decelerate so smoothly has helped him cobble together one of the most complete racing packages.
What’s more, while Veijer has just one victory on the season, he’s turned on the jets to close the schedule. Three of his past four races have featured a top-three finish.
Better Bet to Beat David Alonso: Ivan Artola or David Munoz
Both Ivan Artola (+1600) and David Munoz (+1600) enter with 16-to-1 odds to take down David Alonso and company at the Barcelona Grand Prix.
Let’s start here. We love the value from both of these guys. While they are each susceptible to inconsistencies on the track that can cost them position, the ceilings on their steering are through the roof. Both Artola and Munoz find open spaces like moths find flames. And when they maintain their handling in tighter traffic, they look like threats to win any given race.
The Barcelona Grand Prix should be no different. At the moment, though, we find ourselves leaning toward Artola.
Sure, it helps that Artola has one first-place finish under his belt. But we have also seen him fare better against David Alonson overall on more than one occasion. Most notably, Artola beat Alonso at Silverstone this past August. Meanwhile, Munoz has slid outside the top five of two many recent events for us to trust him to pull off an upset here.
Official 2024 Barcelona Grand Prix Prediction
Even with the championship already sewn up, David Alonso continues to receive a majority of the action. We get it. Moto3 racers aren’t just trying to secure World Championships. They are competing for much more—namely sponsorships and promotions.
Still, the stakes in Barcelona are low for Alonso. We cannot envision him racing as his most aggressive self.
You can make the same case for Veijer following his Red Bull contract. Neither he nor David Alonso feels destined to be at their very best.
This is why we are Ivan Artola to get his second victory of the season at the Barcelona Grand Prix. We appreciate his open-runway handling and has improved his steering and shifting in clusters of riders. Plus, with the championship already going to David Alonso, this more so than any other race invites us to take chances. Artola’s 16-to-1 payout is much too enticing to ignore.
