Lan Xi Lei vs. Viktor Axelsen

World number 2, Axelsen has been in unbelievable form. He seems to have shaken off his injury issues and returned to the form which saw him reign as world number 1 before that spot was taken by Yu Qi Shi. It has been an incredible couple of months for Axelsen. He won the Badminton Gold Medal at the Paris Olympics and followed that up with a Hong Kong Open win. He didn't drop a set in either tournament! His opponent in the final in Hong Kong was the man he now faces in China. It was a 21-9, 21-12 victory. I am backing something similar here. Viktor Axelsen -15.5 at odds of -120.

I picked this one out as it should be a very comfortable win for Nishimoto and I like the betting opportunity this presents. George is a relatively young player but has looked out of his depth far too often at this level. The world number 40 had a poor summer, crashing out of his last three tournaments in the first round. In June, he made it to the second round of the Australian Badminton Open before losing to his next opponent Nishimoto 22-20, 21-6. Therefore, I like the look of Nishimoto -8.5 and 2-0 to Nishimoto.

Rasmus Gemke vs. Jonatan Christie

This is another first round mismatch in my opinion. Christie was far too strong for Gemke when they met last week in the Hong Kong Open last 16, dispatching him, 21-12, 21-19. Christie would go on to make it to the semi-final stage. It is the world number 8 against the world number 27 and I expect the better ranked player to breeze through.

Yushi Tanaka Vs. Kean Yew Loh

I expect Kean Yew Loh to bounce back from some disappointing performances with a comfortable win in this first round fixture. Loh was defeated in the first rounds of the Hong Kong Open Badminton and the Japan Open. Before that, he lost in the Olympics to the Gold medalist, Axelsen. However, Loh is world number 11 and one of the best players on the planet. I anticipate a dominant win against Japan's Tanaka.
