Joe Pyfer vs. Marc-Andre Barriault Betting Pick
This is the “main event” of the prelims — as in the final bout before the main fight card starts. It pits two middleweight and it should be a BANGER of a fight entertainment-wise. This entertainment value leads us to bet the Pyfer-Barriault over/under odds. Here’s how the best UFC betting sites are pegging it:
Pyfer had his hype train derailed the last time he stepped into the octagon against Jack Hermansson. He lost a surprising five-round decision to Hermansson, and how he lost is the surprising part. Pyfer, who’s supposed to be this killer striker, was outstruck handily by Hermansson, who is a grappler at heart. The outcome was a “fraud check” of sorts.
We’ll find out for sure in this fight because Barriault is a busy striker. He averages just over six strikes landed per minute — far more than Pyfer at 3.66. He’s not one-punch KO dangerous, but his output is enough to wear out opponents over a three-round bout.
This bet ultimately comes down to one thing — is Pyfer a phony or not? When he’s good, he’s a lethal finisher. Before the recent loss, he had won five in a row and all by stoppage. Pyfer has heavy hands, however, his defense is lacking big time. Barriault will have his opportunities to pick him apart.
Personally, we lean toward Pyfer being not as fraudulent as he’s been made out to be. Yes, the defense is an issue and he’ll need to fix it to fight at the top-end of this division. But Pyfer can beat Barriault thanks to those dangerous fists of his. We predict an early knockout win for Pyfer here.
Charles Jourdain vs. Jean Silva Betting Pick
This undercard featherweight fight should also be exciting — not only because of the fight style but because of the betting odds. It’s not far from a pick ‘em bet. Here’s how the Jourdain-Silva odds look:
Jourdain is the slight favorite to win. The 28-year-old is an all-out striker. For what he lacks in striking accuracy, he makes up for in unpredictableness — spinning kicks and flying knees galore. He did lose last time out though, a split-decision defeat to Sean Woodson. In that fight, his struggles to get the takedown were on full display (he went 0-for-4). Get this, Jourdain has an abysmal takedown accuracy of 48 percent.
His opponent is Silva, who’s a well-rounded fighter. His striking is a little more crisp than Jourdain’s, but it’s his takedown ability that really makes him a threat. For one, he’s defended takedowns 100 percent during his UFC career but two, his accuracy is 50 percent. The threat of him shooting for legs really opens up his striking ability.
Our money is squarely on Silva here. We just think he’s more talented. On the feet, we prefer Silva. On the ground? Silva has the edge here too. Look out for Silva in this division. He’s unproven but the talent is there to really rank up with due time and quality wins like this one.
Mayra Bueno Silva vs. Macy Chiasson
This women’s bantamweight bout is on the main card surprisingly. We say surprisingly cause most UFC fans and bettors aren’t particularly excited by it. But hey, you don’t need to be excited to make money off the Silva-Chiasson moneyline. The odds are right down the middle at the moment:
Silva is fresh off a title loss to Raquel Pennington. It wasn’t particularly close, but it’s not like Silva looked bad either. With Silva, you’re getting a pretty solid striker, but an even better grappler. What did her in during the Pennington loss was control time — she couldn’t hold her opponent down and on the flip side, Silva was backed into the cage most of the fight.
The first thing that immediately sticks about Chiasson is her height — a lengthy 5-foot-11. She might be the tallest female at bantamweight. Chiasson’s height matters because she fights Muy Thai style and it allows her to hold range against challengers.
But here’s why we like Chiasson to win: she’s added wrestling to her game as of late. That’s smart given her size advantages and after seeing Silva’s struggles at control in her last fight, we could see Chiasson winning via decision.
