Major season is nearly over, with the fourth tournament coming up in late July as golf's best head to the Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland for the 2024 Open Championship. This is the final major of the season but it always tends to be one of the most exciting. Heading into the event in the UK, none other than Scottie Scheffler is the early favorite to win it all after his triumph at the Masters, sitting at +400 odds. Rory McIlroy, who hails from not far away in Northern Ireland, comes in at +800. Xander Schauffele and Bryson DeChambeau both sit at +1400, while names such as Collin Morikawa, Ludvig Aberg, and Jon Rahm are expected to contend as well. Brian Harman is the defending champion at the British Open, finishing -13. That's his only major victory. McIlroy and Morikawa, two of the favorites, have won in past years as well. This is the oldest golf tournament in the world and the most prestigious.

Scottie Scheffler (+400)

Is it really any surprise to see Scheffler as such a heavy favorite? Not at all. The American is the most in-form golfer on the globe and he isn't slowing down. Despite his odd arrest at Augusta, he still put on the Green Jacket, finishing -11. Scheffler had a run where he won four of five tournaments around the time the Masters happened. He also did well at the PGA Championship, finishing in eighth place. The US Open was disappointing with a 41st place finish, but Scheffler bounced back at the Travelers Championship, winning that event. Scheffler is the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world right now. Well deserved. His best finish was second at the Open Championship back in 2022.

Rory McIlroy (+800)

McIlroy will be in familiar territory in the UK when he tees off at the British Open. It hasn't been the greatest season for him, but there's been bright spots, too. McIlroy finished second behind Bryson DeChambeau at the US Open (-5) and was tied for 12th at the PGA Championship. He won the Wells Fargo Championship in May and came fourth at the RBC Canadian Open. McIlroy won the US Open way back in 2011. He has four major victories overall. You can't count out the 35-year-old next month.

Xander Schauffele (+1400)

It's been quite the year for Schauffele. Consistency is a glaring strength for the 30-year-old, only finishing outside of the top 20 in two tournaments. He took home top spot at the PGA Championship, was eighth at the Masters, and seventh at the US Open. That's three top-10 finishes at all the majors. Typically unheard of. Fourth at the Genesis Championship and third at the American Express are two other impressive finishes. He was also just 13th at the Travelers Championship. Schauffele is a clear-cut contender at the British Open. He was third at the event in 2019.

Bryson DeChambeau (+1400)

DeChambeau might be with LIV Golf now, but he's still a dangerous player. We saw just that at the US Open when the heavy hitter won the tournament with a -6. In fact, he's shown out in all the majors, finishing second at the PGA Championship and sixth at the Masters. Clearly the move to LIV hasn't hurt DeChambeau. Funny thing is he isn't even doing that well on the tour but when he participates in the majors it's a whole different story.

Collin Morikawa (+1600)

Morikawa is the seventh-ranked player in the world. He's produced some great results this season then in other events, not so much. That being said, in the majors, Morikawa is showing up. He was third at the Masters, fourth at the PGA Championship, and 14th at the US Open. He missed the cut at PGA Tour events, which isn't a huge deal because we know the majors are what matter most.

Ludvig Aberg (+1800)

Over to the fourth-ranked player in the world. Despite just turning pro last year, Aberg is already a dangerous player. That showed when he was second at the Masters behind Scheffler and 12th at the US Open. He's never won a major and it may be a while until he does, but the Swede will surely be in the mix.

The Open Championship Futures Picks

I'm all aboard the Scottie Scheffler train. He's truly playing the best golf of his life right now and I think that will carry into the British Open. The odds are worth a shot here.
