2024 Tour de France Betting Picks and Predictions

The 2024 Tour de France gets underway on Saturday with two-time Yellow Jersey winner Tadej Pogacar, the betting favorite to win the race. One man who will have plenty to say about that is the defending champion, Jonas Vingegaard. The Dane is looking for a third successive win and will not relinquish his title without a fight. Who will come out on top in what looks set to be a classic cycling dual? We tell you the answer in our latest cycling betting picks.

  • What: 2024 Tour de France
  • Start: Saturday, June 29th
  • Finish: Sunday, July 21st
  • Distance: 3498 km

The 2024 Tour de France is set to be one like no other in recent memory. The Grand Depart is in Florence, Italy, with the final stage ending in Nice, rather than the traditional Paris finale. The reason behind the switch to Nice is the forthcoming Paris Olympics.

Regardless of where the race finishes, another classic three weeks of competition is in store. There is not only the question of who will win the Pogacar vs. Vingegaard showdown, but also if Jasper Philipsen can defend the Green Jersey he won in 2023 and if Mark Cavendish can get the stage victory he requires to overtake Eddy Merckx on the all-time list of Tour de France stage winners.

Both Merckx and Cavendish sit on an impressive 34-stage victory at the Tour. Cavendish is in his final year in the sport. Getting the outright record would be a major achievement for the Manx Missile if he can finally pull it off.

Odds of +150 are available on Cavendish to win at least one stage. And there are six to eight stages that could be contested by the sprinters, giving Cavendish plenty of chances.

Betting to win the 2024 Tour de France

The 2024 Tour de France is billed as UAE Team Emirates vs. Visma, but more specifically, it is a race between Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard. Both have won the race twice. Pogacar was the Yellow Jersey winner in 2020 and 2021. Vingegaard in 2022 and 2023.

The smart money says it will be one of these two who wins again in 2024. In the latest Tour de France betting odds, Tadej Pogacar leads the way at -165. Jonas Vingegaard is +200.

Outside the leading two contenders are Primoz Roglic at +800,Ā Remco Evenpoel at +1400, and Juan Ayuso and Adam Yates at +2800. More odds are available on our Tour de France betting table. For our odds, we have only used the best sites for betting on cycling.

Tadej Pogacar -165

Tadej Pogacar has been in sensational form in 2024. The 25-year-old Slovenian has been dominating the sport recently, winning the Strade Bianche, Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Volta a Catalunya, and the Giro d'Italia.

The win in the Giro was particularly impressive, with Pogacar dominating the race, winning a remarkable six stages.

Pogacar will be ably supported by Juan Ayuso, Adam Yates, and Joao Almeida. All three are exceptional climbers who will be on hand to help their team leader.

Many believe this could be the strongest team ever assembled to tackle a Tour de France.

Jonas Vingegaard +200

Jonas Vingegaard isnā€™t a man we would write off easily. His explosive power in the mountains is matched only by Pogacar. But even the great Slovenian couldnā€™t outpace Vingegaard at altitude in 2022 and 2023.

The downside this year is that Vingegaard has been out injured for the past few weeks. The Dane hasnā€™t raced since he suffered a broken collarbone, broken ribs, and a punctured lung at the Tour of the Basque Country just under three months ago.

There was debate whether Vingegaard would be fit to ride in the tour and defend the Yellow Jersey that he has won in the last two years. But like a true champion, Vingegaard has returned to fitness and will be on the starting line in Florence on Saturday.

The question is, has Vingegaard fully recovered from those injuries? But the race doesnā€™t reach the Pyrenees Mountains until the second week. So if the defending champion can get through the first week, he will be another week fitter, making him more of a threat.

Although his Visma team isnā€™t as strong as UAE Team Emirates, Vingegaard does have top-level support from Wout van Aert, Matteo Jorgenson and Sepp Kuss.

Our betting picks to win the 2024 Tour de France

Jonas Vingegaard is probably the best climber in the world. So if he can make it to the mountains in good shape and still in touch with Tadej Pogacar, then he will be a threat to rival the Slovenian.

But the latest cycling betting odds suggest it will be difficult for the Dane. Coming back from such injuries is never easy, and then you have to factor in just how fit he is.

There can only be one pick to win the 2024 Tour de France. And that is Tadej Pogacar. Pogacar has been the best rider in the world this year. We say he will complete the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France double.
