About the 2023 Dutch Open Badminton
This competition dates back to 1931, so is nearing its 100th anniversary. It is a part of the European Badminton Circuit, which runs from September to April. Similar to tennis, where you will find Grand Slams, then Masters 1000, 500, and 250, this is a BWF Super 100, which is a fifth-tier tournament.
The highest-level Badminton tournament is the Super 1000. Only four competitions in the world have that rating. They are the All England Open, China Open, Indonesia Open, and from 2023 onwards, the Malaysia Open. The next tiers are Super 750, Super 500, and Super 300.
The Dutch Open defending menâs champion is Christo Popov of France. He defeated Mads Christophersen 25-23 21-10 in last yearâs final, claiming his fourth BWF International Challenge title of this career.
Christo Popov isnât in the competition this year. He is instead competing in the Arctic Open in Finland, which unfortunately clashes with this event.
2023 Dutch Open Badminton First Round Betting
Top seed Mark Caljouw is -700 to see off Danylo Bosniuk (+400). Caljouw is in the top half of the draw and therefore will avoid number two seed Victor Svendsen, who is also -700, to see off Kian-Yu Oei (+400) when they meet on Thursday.
Number eight seed Joran Kweekel has drawn a qualifier, and he wonât know who he is facing until late on Wednesday.
Apart from the number six seed, Dmitriy Panarin, all the other top seeds are heavy odds on favorites to win their respective matches. Panarin is +110 in his first-round match against the unseeded Enogat Ray, who is -150.
Our Badminton odds table has betting for more of the first-round matches. The Badminton betting odds we have used are taken from the best online sports betting sites, ensuring the best value for money when you place your wagers.

Mark Caljouw -700 vs. Danylo Bosnuik +400
In the Scottish Open last week, Mark Caljouw suffered a huge setback when he was defeated two sets to nil by Joakim Oldorff in the second round.
The first set was competitive, with Caljouw pushing the Finn all the way. The set finished 22-20. But the second set was a complete mismatch, with Oldorff coasting to a 21-4 win.
As for Danylo Bosnuik, he fell at the first hurdle at the Polish International Badminton in his last performance at a major Badminton championship.
The eventual champion, Andi Fadel Muhammad defeated the Ukrainian 21-17 22-20 in a hard-fought round of 32 match.
Caljouw is ranked 61 in the world. But he has performed below par this year and sits 91st on the World Tour Rankings. Danylo Bosnuik has performed far worse. He has an overall World Ranking of 41 but sits way down at 217 in the World Tour Rankings.
For our betting pick, we can only go one way with this match. It has to be the number one seed. We are backing Mark Caljouw to win on the handicap and cover the 1.5-set spread.
Victor Svendson -700 vs. Kian-Yu Oei +400
For our bonus pick, we are looking at the match between number two seed Victor Svendson and Kian-Yu Oei.
Svendson has had a solid consistent season. He has a World Ranking of 65 and a tour rank of 71, so that is where he should be. In his last outing, he lost a grueling three-set match against Joakim Oldorff 17-21 21-14 21-15. That was in the semi-final of the Belgian International.
Svendsonâs opponent, Kian-Yu Oei, is a young up-and-coming player. He has no World Tour Ranking and is down at 212 in the latest World Rankings.
Again, like with Mark Caljouw, we are ignoring the money line and backing Victor Svendson to win on the handicap line at better odds.
