  • Where: Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia
  • When: Saturday, September 10

Israel Adesanya vs. Sean Strickland Prop Bet

Maybe the only way to make money off the main event is props. That’s because the moneyline is way, way too lopsided as Australia’s own, Adesnya, is a -650 favorite to win on the moneyline. A much more reasonable bet here is who wins, and more importantly how. We’re talking about the Adesanya-Strickland extent outcome prop. The gambling options are as follows on top betting sites for UFC:

OutcomeMyBookieBetUSBovada
Adesanya by Points+130+130+130
Adesanya by KO-110-110-110
Adesanya by Submission+1000+1000+1000
Draw+6600+6600+6600
Strickland by Points+1200+1200+1200
Strickland by KO+1200+1200+1200
Strickland by Submission+2500+2500+2500

We’ll be blunt and say Strickland isn’t winning this fight so you can scratch off those betting options. Strickland is a respectable fighter, but far from a championship-level one. He’s only in this position because Dricus du Plessis wasn’t ready to fight Adesanya due to injuries. In the past, Strickland has come up short against every top-flight middleweight including Alex Pereira and Jared Cannonier, both of which, Adesanya has beaten.

So if Izzy is winning (it would be a small miracle if he doesn’t), then is it by decision or KO (he's never made anyone submit)? In 13 career UFC wins for The Last Stylebender, eight have been decisions. Until recently, some fans were labeling Adesanya “boring” because of a lack of aggression inside the octagon.

But there’s reason to believe Adesanya will “go for blood” at UFC 293. He’s fresh off a highlight-reel stoppage of Pereira, he’s sworn fighting enemy. Two, he’ll be fighting in front of a partisan crowd. Three, and this is most important, Strickland’s fight style lends itself to getting dropped. The challenger is aggressive and constantly pushes forward. Adesanya, being the longer fighter, will have his chances at getting him out early. Our money says the champion does just that!

Alexander Volkov vs. Tai Tuivasa Prop Bet

Tuivasa is likely going to be the most popular fighter on the card — from the home crowd (he’s a born-and-bred Aussie) but also the fans watching. It’s hard not to like the tough-nosed Tuivasa. However, he has a tough heavyweight matchup against Volkov. In this bout, we’re inclined to take the Tuivasa-Volkov prop on who wins within the distance. The odds are as follows:

OutcomeMyBookieBetUSBovada
Alexander Volkov-115-115-115
Tai Tuivasa+235+235+235
Goes to Decision+250+250+250

So for clarification, the point is to choose which fighter wins before the final bell or just choose it goes the distance. The latter option hits if it goes to decision — no matter who wins. But we’re canceling out that bet. When it’s a pair of heavyweights with almost no ground game, as is the case here, somebody is getting knocked out before the third round ends.

To us, Volkov is winning despite the favoritism for Tuivasa. In fact, going against the crowd is what makes us more confident in this Volkov pick. He doesn’t have the fanfare, but Volkov is the more skilled and powerful hitter. Getting him on this line is a pure value play too considering his regular moneyline is -250 — so you’re getting a steal if he wins by early stoppage, which we do.

Justin Tafa vs. Austen Lane Prop Bet

Alright, this Tafa-Lane prop bet is admittedly a bigger gamble. The risk-reward is worth it, however. With this heavyweight clash, we’re putting money on who wins and in what exact round. There are more betting options here, and that’s reflected in the more spread-out betting odds. See below for reference:

OutcomeMyBookieBetUSBovada
Tafa in Round 1+100+100+100
Tafa in Round 2+550+550+550
Tafa in Round 3+550+550+550
Tafa by Points+700+700+700
Draw+6600+6600+6600
Lane in Round 1+550+550+550
Lane in Round 2+800+800+800
Lane in Round 3+900+900+900
Lane by Points+900+900+900

This fight almost has to end early, as well. Both fighters are strike-based heavyweights without any wrestling or ground game to speak of. Tafa is the favorite to win. He’s younger and also fighting in front of the home Aussie crowd. But we think Lane has the potential to play spoiler. A former NFL player, Lane has more physical capacity than Tafa with strength, size, and athletic advantages.

We’re going to throw cash on Lane in the second round. Tafa might start off hot due to the Aussie homecoming but by round two, Lane will be settled. Sometime in this round, he’ll land the KO haymaker that scores him the win.
