The 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season heads to New York for the Go Bowling at the Glen with lots on the line. None of the contenders finished within the top-five last weekend at Brickyard but Martin Truex Jr still holds a 60-point lead at the top of the standings. That being said, only about 100 points are between second place and 10th place, so every single race moving forward is very important. Heading into Watkins Glen, Chase Elliott comes in as a surprising favorite at +350, followed by Kyle Larson (+500), Martin Truex Jr (+700), Tyler Reddick (+800), and Michael McDowell (+1000). Watkins Glen is one of a handful of road courses on the Cup Series circuit. There are 90 laps in total for a distance of 2.45 miles. Kyle Larson has won in back-to-back years while in 2020, it was moved to Daytona due to COVID-19. Elliott notched victories in 2018 and 2019.
Race Preview
Chase Elliott (+375)
It's been a rocky campaign for Elliott after a suspension and injury. However, he looks to be coming into his own as of late. He was second at Indy last Sunday and as previously mentioned, has a track record of success at Watkins Glen. Elliott is also historically solid on road courses, not finishing worse than fifth in three road races this year thus far. Although he's 19th in the standings, Elliott must be considered a contender this weekend. It's important to keep in mind he hasn't won a race since Talladega, though.
Kyle Larson (+500)
Larson is having a good season with two victories, 10 top-five finishes, and 12 top-10 finishes. With a win Sunday, he'd become the third driver to ever win three times in a row at Watkins Glen. Larson appears in very good form right now, too. He's finished within the top-10 in seven of his last 10 outings. Consistency. Oh, Larson has also finished top-10 at Watkins Glen in four consecutive appearances. If you're not so confident in betting Larson to win, there's undoubtedly value in a more specific bet. It's worth a look.
Martin Truex Jr (+700)
Truex Jr is easily the most dominant driver on the Cup Series circuit in 23'. I mean, he is first in the standings for a reason. In 24 starts, Truex Jr has three wins, nine top-fives, and a season-best 14 top-10 finishes. When it comes to Watkins Glen has also enjoyed his fair share of success, finishing top-three in four of the last five races here. He was seventh at Indy a week ago and hasn't finished worse than seventh in five straight races, also winning at New Hampshire.
Tyler Reddick (+800)
Reddick has done well on road courses in recent memory, winning Road America and Indy a year ago but he's been struggling in 2023 on road courses. That being said, Reddick appears to be trending in the right direction. He's finished top-six in three of the last five races, securing second at Pocono last month. Can Reddick produce the goods this Sunday? It's very possible.
Michael McDowell (+1000)
McDowell is typically in the Xfinity Series but he's mostly been in the Cup Series this season. He's 12th in the standings and honestly has decent odds here because he won at Indy, leading for 54 laps in total. His results are certainly a mixed bag though, finished worst than 20th in three straight races before the victory. That being said, he's collected more road course points than any other driver on the circuit in 23'. That means something.
Daniel Suarez (+1100)
Suarez is in good form right now, finishing third in Indy and sixth at Michigan. But, there hasn't been a lot of consistency for the Mexico native, who is 17th in the standings. When it comes to road courses, he's not the best, either. Suarez is probably one to fade Sunday.
Go Bowling at The Glen Picks
As always, it's best to put some money down on a few different bets. Outright is never the move because it's such a tricky pick, so we'll go with some specific bets. Take Truex Jr and Larson both to finish top-five.
