UFC on ESPN betting picks

We have ourselves a bet-worthy UFC on ESPN show. After analyzing the fight card from top to bottom, we’ve honed in on three bets. In this article, we’ll lay out our UFC betting picks for free so stick with us!

  • What: UFC on ESPN 47
  • Where: UFC Apex at Las Vegas, Nevada
  • When: Saturday, June 17

Marvin Vettori vs. Jared Cannonier Betting Pick

The oddsmakers are almost split on who wins the main event matchup between these two middleweights. However, Vettori is the slight favorite to best Cannonier, per the top betting sites for UFC. The keyword in the last sentence is slight because look at how close the betting odds are:

FighterBetOnlineMyBookieBovada
Marvin Vettori-120-120-120
Jared Cannonier-110-110-110

Both fighters are top-5 in the middleweight division. A win would angle them toward a rematch against champion Israel Adesnya, who’s already beaten each one — but that goes for most of Izzy’s contenders at the weight. Vettori, despite being 10 years younger, has the better record at 19-6-1 (9-4-1 UFC). The 39-year-old Cannonier is 16-6 (9-6 UFC).

Both fighters are completely opposite style-wise. Cannonier is one of the hardest hitters at middleweight, if not the hardest. Ten of his 16 knockouts have been by knockout. What makes Cannonier particularly effective is his switch stance. He can mix it up between southpaw and orthodox.

If Vettori is smart, he’ll lean on his takedown and grappling to win. He’s developed his striking over his career, but going toe to toe with the dangerous Cannonier isn’t smart at all. What we will give Vettori is, he’s got a proven chin. Only two times over his career has he ever been knocked out. And as far as we can tell, KO is the only real path to victory for Cannonier in this one.

Vettori is getting our money to win here. We predict it goes the full five rounds too. So if there are any prop bettors, taking Vettori by decision makes a lot of betting sense.

Arman Tsarukyan vs. Joaquim Silva Betting Pick

First of all, just skip the moneyline bet here. Tsarukyan is a staggering -1000 to win, leaving bettors with no value unless they believe Silva is getting the major upset. We do not believe that, hence why we’re taking the Tsarukyan-Silva over/under bet instead. Here are the odds:

OutcomeBetOnlineMyBookieBovada
Over 1.5 rounds+120+120+120
Under 1.5 rounds-150-150-150

We won’t mince words here: Tsarukyan is going to dominate Silva. The Russian, like other fighters from the country, is a wizard with the takedown game. In his last fight against Damir Ismagulov, Tsarukyan went for a whopping 21 takedowns. He was successful seven times. We fully expect him to use the same playbook versus Silva.

Silva will need to fend off the takedown to have any sort of chance since he’s the far superior striker. While Silva’s 65 percent takedown defense isn’t bad, it’s not great either. We got a feeling Tsarukyan will make Silva fight from the ground. If so, Tsarukyan should win by decision. Tsarukyan only has one submission win (compared to 11 decisions) so we’re inclined to bet over 1.5 rounds here.

Christian Leroy Duncan vs. Armen Petrosyan

Here’s another middleweight fight, and like the previous one, the Duncan-Petrosyan odds are pretty close. Take a look at the moneyline odds for each fighter at the moment:

FighterBetOnlineMyBookieBovada
Christian Leroy Duncan-155-120-120
Armen Petrosyan+125-110-110

Both these fighters might be unknown to the common UFC bettor. The favorite, Duncan, is fighting in the UFC for the second time. Before this, he was a champion in Cage Warriors and holds a pristine 8-0 mark. Petrosyan, on the other hand, has toiled in no man’s land whilst in the UFC. He came up from Dana White's Contenders Series and has a quiet 2-1 mark in the promotion (7-2 all time).

Both fighters are strikers through and through (neither has ever gotten a takedown in the UFC). However, Duncan is more dangerous. Seven of his eight wins have been via knockout. He swings more wildly, which could be an issue down the line against a fighter that can crack him. We do not think Petrosyan is that type of fighter though. Therefore, we got Duncan winning and probably before the judge's can decide it.
