Bellator 291 features one of the most anticipated rematches in recent memory for the promotion — Yaroslav Amosov vs. Logan Storley. The two welterweights will headline the February 25 card in Dublin, Ireland. We’re previewing the mega-fight in this article, before offering our own Bellator 291 bets to win! Keep reading if you want to make some money come fight night.
Amosov vs. Storley Betting Pick
Before we make a pick on the Amosov vs. Storley rematch, we have to turn back the clock to the two’s first bout. The 170-pounders met in the middle of the pandemic at Bellator 252. On that November 2020 night, Amosov came out with a razor-close decision win. The final scorecards read 28-29, 29-28, 29-28.
The first fight was a toss-up but we’d agree that Amosov did enough to prevail. Storley leaned heavily on his wrestling and even came close to submitting Amosov in the third round. Ultimately, Amosov used his superior striking to outpoint Storley.
Both fighters were undefeated at the time, and in line for a title shot. Amosov advanced to fight Douglas Lima for the title, which he won by unanimous decision. However, he never defended the welterweight gold as he chose to help his native Ukraine country in the fight against Russia. It was during that layoff that Storley became interim champion, beating Michael Page by a split decision.
The titles will be unified come Bellator 291 — this time in a five-round fight. That’s probably the big variable to account for when picking a winner in the rematch. Given both’s wrestling pedigree, neither fighter wants to spend ample time on the ground, wasting energy to get back up on their feet. In a five-round championship bout, every ounce of energy matters.
Not only the five rounds, but you also have to account for Amosov’s time off in Ukraine. Well, time off might not be the best wording since he was going through a true life-or-death fight there, but you get our point: the welterweight champion had bigger issues on his mind than his sport. This card takes place almost a year to the day that Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine, which surely will have an effect on Amosov.
It’s not an easy fight in the slightest — hence the close odds. However, we’re picking Storley to score the upset. We think he’s had more time to sharpen his skills since the first bout since he's been able to train more. And given how close things were in the first go, even marginal improvement from Storely could be enough to tilt this fight in his direction.
Peter Queally vs. Bryce Logan Betting Pick
For a fight card in Ireland, you just had to know home-crowd favorites from the country would be added. That’s what we have here as Irishman Queally semi-main events against Logan. Queally is a famous teammate of the sport’s biggest star, who is also Irish, Conor McGregor.
Unfortunately for Queally, fighting in front of a partisan Dublin crowd has done little for him as of late. Queally has lost three of the last four bouts he’s had here — all since 2019. Queally was beaten each of his last two quite convincingly. First, Patrick Freire KO’d him in a vacant lightweight title match. That was followed by a unanimous decision defeat to Benson Henderson.
Both Freire and Henderson are hammers, however, and we can’t say the same about Logan. He’s lost all four of his Bellator fights to date, and we’re betting the streak becomes five. This feels like a gimme fight for Queally to get his career back on track. Bet the hometown guy with confidence here.
Jeremy Kennedy vs. Pedro Carvalho Betting Pick
This is a solid fight in what likely is a number-one contenders bout for featherweight champion Patricio Pitbull. Like Queally, Ireland is the home turf of Carvalho. The Irishman is fresh off an impressive win over Mads Burnell — a teammate of Kennedy. All that creates extra intrigue around this Carvalho-Kennedy showdown.
We’re giving the nod to Kennedy. He’s not getting full credit for his recent win against the fast-rising Aaron Pico cause Pico injured his shoulder before being KO’d in that clash. However, we think Kennedy wins that fight even without the injury. Kennedy is the bet to make here to set up an epic collision with Pitbull, who Kennedy has been calling out for a while now.
How To Bet On Bellator In 2023?
Don’t sleep on the Bellator betting opportunities in 2023. The promotion might not draw the attention of the UFC, but that’s not a bad thing for bettors looking to find under-the-radar betting value. Bookies are more likely to misprice odds in Bellator than UFC, which is to your benefit if you’re smart about it.
