2022 F1 Season Recap

Did you notice in the aforementioned odds that no driver is even close to Verstappen odds-wise? Itā€™s a reflection of how the 2022 F1 season has gone on: Verstappen pulling away from the pack. After three races, the reigning world champion was as far back as 46 points from first place. Today? Heā€™s 21 points ahead of everyone else.

Verstappenā€™s stunning turnaround is two-sided. For one, heā€™s just flat-out good. Thatā€™s why heā€™s won five of the past seven races. Second, unfortunate car issues held him back to start the season. If not for two early DNFs, Verstappenā€™s championship lead would be much longer. Thatā€™s why oddsmakers have pegged him as the consensus favorite in MontrĆ©al.

Verstappenā€™s gain has been Leclercā€™s loss mainly. The Ferrari driver has struggled after taking two of the first three races. And now Sergio Perez has leapfrogged him in both the Canada GP odds AND world title standings. Perez has 129 points on the year, while Leclerc has 116.

As we said before, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has been without a race since 2019 due to the global pandemic. Still, this track and event as a whole have long been a fixture in the F1 calendar. Lewis Hamilton won the most recent competition, giving him seven all-time wins in Canada ā€” tied for record most. Hamilton remains winless in 2022 and just one podium finish too. His meager 62 points has him all the way in seventh in the standings and he's battling a back injury at the moment.

2022 Canada GP Betting Picks

Thereā€™s no shortage of bets to make on the looming race. Beyond just who wins, thereā€™s also a litany of props on other related outcomes ā€” who takes the pole position, who runs the fastest lap, etc. While thereā€™s a lot to choose from, weā€™ve narrowed down our 2022 Canada GP betting picks to two. Letā€™s get into them each:

Verstappen Or Leclerc For Winner?

For most of this season, picking a race winner was as simple as choosing between Leclerc or Verstappen. Now, that doesnā€™t feel so simple with Leclerc sliding down the standings. However, we wouldnā€™t quite give up on him ā€” not yet at least.

Whether itā€™s bad luck or just downright bad management from Ferrari, Leclercā€™s downfall has been largely out of control. In the past three races, car issues have forced him to retire twice and then his team erroneously asked him to pit stop which most likely cost him a victory in Monaco, his home race. No way a fourth freak occurrence could strike in a row here, right?

Our money says no. We mean, is Ferrari this comical to screw up four straight times? Leclerc is still a threat ā€” as his consistently high performances in practice and qualifying show. His team just needs to not beat themselves.

Plus, we love the betting value of Leclerc at +300. Thatā€™s the best price heā€™s been at since the second race of the season. The risk (another Ferrari screw-up) is worth the reward in our book. Take Leclerc here now that bettors and bookies have seemingly written him off. More times than not, ā€œfading the publicā€ is a winning strategy in sports betting.

George Russell To Podium

How about this George Russell kid huh? The only thing thatā€™s been more consistent this season than Verstappen winning is Russell finishing top-5. In a crazy but true stat, the Mercedes driver has finished in the top-5 every single race this season. All eight! That trend makes this prop bet on whether Russell can podium intriguing. Here's the odds for not just Russell, but other drivers:

DriverBetUSBetOnline
Max Verstappen-350-350
Sergio Perez-275-275
Charles Leclerc-200-200
Carlos Sainz+160+160
George Russell+300+300
Lewis Hamilton+350+350
Lando Norris+800+800

As our headline says, weā€™re wagering that Russell indeed goes top-3. Every race it seems like Russellā€™s comfort and confidence grows, which should help his cause in Montreal. With Hamilton injured, Russell should be a bigger focal point for Mercedes too.

How To Watch The 2022 Canadian Grand Prix?

If you're inside the United States, the only place to watch the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix is ESPN (and that goes for every race this year). This event is Sunday, June 19 at 2 pm EST sharp. That's a pretty reasonable start time for American viewers since Canada's time zone aligns with theirs, unlike Europe or the Middle East. This also falls on Father's Day, though, so account for that in your viewing plans.

How To Bet On 2022 Canada Grand Prix?

Weā€™re extremely confident in the two aforementioned Canada Grand Prix bets. However, if you want a full list of F1 lines on the race (this one or futures ones), then visit one of the betting sites listed in the below table.
