Koln the Bet in Top Four Battle

Who do Bettors Favor?

Most bookmakers have either stopped taking bets on the Bundesliga or are offering eye-watering short odds on Bayern Munich, but the Top Four markets at the best online sportsbook reviews sites show a slightly more competitive battle, with Bayer Leverkusen available at -500 to secure the fourth spot, ahead of Freiburg at +300 and Union Berlin at +2500.

Betting on the Bundesliga Winner

Can anyone stop Bayern Munich from winning a tenth Bundesliga title in a row? Technically, Borussia Dortmund can, but with four games to go and a gap of nine points to close, the odds are extremely long that they will be able to overhaul their long-time rival.

In fact, you can get around +10000 on Dortmund pulling off one of the greatest comebacks in the history of European football. Alternatively, if you like wagering at short prices, you can bet on Bayern on -10000.

If that is to happen, it would have to start this weekend, when Dortmund travel to the Allianz Arena to take on the leaders. Nothing less than a win will do, and to their credit, Marco Rose’s team have been good on the road this season. The problem is that even if they do pull off a victory in Munich, they still need the reigning champions to slip up in their remaining three games, against Wolfsburg, Stuttgart and Mainz, none of whom have anything to play for. In other words, it isn’t going to happen.

Betting on the Bundesliga Top Four

With the race for the title more or less over, the focus of Bundesliga bettors can turn to the Top Four and Relegation battles, which still have some potential.

With Dortmund and Bayern having sewn up the first two places, there are two more up for grabs. Red Bull Leipzig are currently third and have a three-point lead over the fifth-placed team, Freiburg.

Domenico Tedesco’s side could yet finish with two trophies as they are in the final of the German Cup and the semi-finals of the Europa League, which offers another potential route into the Champions League next season, so it is possible that they could come under pressure in the league. Still, their form is strong, and aside from a game against Union Berlin, their remaining fixtures look straightforward, so it is hard to argue with their odds of around -4000 to finish in the top four.

Bayer Leverkusen are currently in the fourth spot and have a superior goal difference to the four teams who have a chance of catching them. Still, given that they have to play two of those teams: Freiburg and Hoffenheim, their current odds of -500 look a little short.

You can back Hoffenheim at +10000 but they have seven points to make up in the space of four games, while Freiburg and Union Berlin both have relatively tough run-ins.

So, if you’re looking for a value bet in this market, FC Koln could be the best option. They are currently six points off the pace, but all four of their remaining fixtures are against teams in the bottom six. Having recently beaten middle of the table Frankfurt and Borussia Monchengladbach, they are in good form, and with the teams above them potentially taking points off one another, they could yet sneak into fourth.

Bundesliga Relegation Betting

At the other end of the table, the fierce relegation battle is nearing its conclusion. Greuther Furth are already down, and it’s important to remember that in the Bundesliga, finishing third from bottom still gives a team a chance to avoid relegation through the relegation play-offs.

Arminia Bielefeld are currently second from the bottom, have picked up one point from seven, and have to play both RB Leipzig and FC Koln in their final four fixtures, so appear to be destined for a bottom-three finish and the final place seems to be between Hertha Berlin and Stuttgart.

Hertha are one point clear of the bottom three, though with a much poorer goal difference than Stuttgart, who currently occupy the third relegation spot. Stuttgart have been making themselves hard to beat recently, collecting three draws in their last five games. Unfortunately, at this stage of the season, picking up the odd point here and there is not enough.

By contrast, Hertha have shown that they can beat their relegation rivals when it matters. Crucial victories over Hoffenheim and Augsburg in the last four weeks have provided a vital return of points and they have an ideal opportunity to all but settle the relegation issue when they play Stuttgart this weekend. At this point, they look well placed to avoid the bottom three, so Stuttgart appear the best bet.
